The Weightlifters Thread

My arms used to be about an 1/8 of an inch short of 19 with a pump. I don't lift that heavy anymore. At that time, I was close gripping 225 for high reps and could pretty easily barbell curl 135 for 15. My elbows really started giving me a lot of trouble. I'm training in my basement gym now. Some of my friends are still power lifting though. My old workout partner messaged me on Facebook the other day when he got 225 for 40 on the bench, but he's a freak. I do miss lifting heavy at times.

That is ridiculous. That is NFL combine level **** right there. I couldn't imagine. I got up to repping 225 lbs. for 23 or 24 reps on the bench this summer before pre-season camp started and I was happy with that. I guess I need to tone it down a notch haha. That is just crazy.

I hate having to do cardio, but I'm plateauing on my weight loss. So I suppose I need to kick up the amount of cardio I am doing.

25-30 mins of elliptical time after my lifting sessions. No HIIT, just intervals.

Alright that's good. I'm not going to lie, I have no idea what HIIT is. I'm not very well educated when it comes to weight lifting or cardio terms.

Just curious, how much do you weigh and what are you trying to get down to?

I've got 225 like 25 times after a workout, that's how we use to finish. 40 would be very tough. You're going along fine & it hits you all of a sudden.

High intensity interval training. It's what the "Insanity" program is based on. I'm 225ish and I have about 16% BF. I'd like to get back down to 200-205. That was the weight that seemed easiest on my knees when I played basketball and ran.

I have had luck at Marshalls and TJ Maxx finding stuff to fit my legs because of the mis-cut items they sell.

Yeah it's ridiculous but he's built for the bench. Five eight, short arms. He's pushing close to 500 now on the bench. My arms are really long. Bench is weak for me. My wingspan is 79 inches. The most I have ever benched was 335 for 3 but that was 3 years ago.

Was doing stature (?) squats and farmers carry circuits today with my PT buddy. I set the bar back on the rack after a set, then grab the kettlebells for a carry rep and come back... some dude had stripped off the weight from the bar i was using and started curling on the fracking squat rack. IN THE 30 SECONDS I WAS GONE FOR. My friend confronted him and told him to use the dedicated curl rack instead, but he was a total dick about it. I just ended up setting up another bar somewhere else. Pissed me off, otherwise I had a great workout today.

Roid rage I would have stabbed him

A lot of folks use the squat rack to curl & other things. He probably thought you were finished.

Was the gym busy? Dude probably just thought you were done.

Exactly.

Curling in the squat rack is a doucher move unless you've got a plate on each side.

A lot of folks like to straight bar curl versus using the EZ curl bar & that's the most convenient spot. That's where everybody does shrugs too.
