The VN Recipe Thread

Well, nevermind on the cooking oil. Dad went grocery shopping without me :banghead2:
He got some bacon, cooking oil, candybars, tater chips, he did get some flour though.

I had an epiphany, I cut up some of the deer steak and wrapped them in turkey bacon, and am now baking them in the oven. What does everyone think?

Sounds good USA, what are you going to have with it?

You can definitely use bacon to flavor some beans in place of ham hocks. If you want to keep the fat content down, chop the bacon up, brown it just a little in the pan and throw it in a pot of beans or black eye peas. Can chop up some onion and brown it with the bacon.

I don't have a cholesterol problem, so I save those bacon drippings like my Granny did, in a small ceramic jar with a lid, and use it to brown things with or flavor things with.

That sounds great, I'll try that sometime :good!: thanks

I'm confused. He wouldn't let you use ham hocks but buys bacon?

At the risk of running dangerously off topic:

You have a duty to honor your father and not disrespect him on his beliefs, but if ever the opportunity for peaceable discussion on the topic should present itself:

Matthew 15
10After Jesus called the crowd to Him, He said to them, "Hear and understand. 11"It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."
12Then the disciples came and said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?"
13But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted.
14"Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit."

The Heart of Man

15Peter said to Him, "Explain the parable to us." 16Jesus said, "Are you still lacking in understanding also?
17"Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated?
18"But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.
19"For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.
20"These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man."

(Of course, if he believes in Judaism and doesn't accept the New Testament, this won't help at all... haha.)

I'm going to add some orange juice to my list as well.
The list: sweet onions, eggs, hamburger meat, orange juice, mac n chez, bag of chicken breasts, yellow rice, tuna, garlic, hotdogs (beef), and hopefully some olive oil.

I didn't have anything specific in mind, just wondered if a grill was an option. Yes, charcoal is little more of a pain, but better. imo

Ok then, good deal. My Grannie has a gas grill but I dunno how to work it

I bought a gas grill a few years back. It's rusting away on the back patio. I use it to stack my charcoal and hickory on, to keep them out of our dogs' reach. :)

I beg to differ with Hank Hill on the whole propane grilling thing.

I'm fixing the recipe Sly gave me right now! THe green beans, onions, taters, and sausage. I'm excited! I've never cut everything up and peeled everything before, it ain't too pretty but it's a start
