The VCU Game

shooters always have the release. I hadn't played in @ 8 yrs since I tore my achilles and went out a few weeks back. Not much lift in the legs at my age, but still able to spin some up there and knock em down.
Rim looks so tall now. Hard to believe I could get up there 30 years ago, but now I couldn't touch the net.

I'm only in my late 20s. Kids just like to run their mouth and to them late 20s is really old. You and I both know the affect knee surgeries have on being able to jump like you used to. You are correct though, my shot is all upper body now.

Google Dell Curry and his shot.

Kentucky's bigs laugh at this lineup. They're all 6'10"+ and most of them are lottery picks. Owens would be moved out of the paint and they would just go over McGhee. Dom has to play a lot in that game.

I hope Dom will be ready to play a lot. He will be needed. McGhee on the other hand wont be such a push over as you think.

Apparently you've seen him play and know the deal. I keep telling his critics that he may be lacking in some skills but he is definitely NOT a push over. They will see in due time.

Question for Sparty or CAVol, do you think Preston Williams (5* WR Commit) can recover from his ACL and LCL tear? As in, how much will injuring his one leg effect his ability to jump/run as well as he could before? I understand it depends how deep the tear is etc, but jw

He has time and he's young. My first one was at 16 and by 18 I was back and able to jump the same. Maybe even higher for a short period. Lots of moving pieces and parts though and anything can happen, which is the scary part.
The mental aspect is the most difficult. It takes awhile to play or practice without thinking about it or trying to protect it and you can't do that at his level of play.
It's possible he is ready in the fall, but the parents, butch and Preston will decide on a redshirt. Surgeries are less invasive now and post op treatments really have sped up the healing process for many, but also for quite a few, it's too quick and the body just isn't ready to move that fast. They used to keep legs straight for weeks early on in acl surgeries, but now they have moved into doing therapy quickly and aggressively.

haha right on. I hope UT is finding the square tomorrow night. Didn't get to see it but sounded like a lot of missed bunnies that last exh.

none of the guys on the team right now are using the square on floaters or midrange shots. Or really putbacks. A lot of hurried and unsmooth shots, which happens with a young team trying really hard. It'll slow down for them.

As far as matchup go, VCU isn't a terrible matchup for the Vols. VCU wants to play up and down in the full court, and that's really the only way UT can compete on offense right now. If VCU uses their havoc system to turn the game into track meet, UT will be ok on offense. When the game slows down, UT runs into some serious issues on both ends of the court. If UT can avoid giving up cheap buckets from turnovers it will be closer than most people think. I like Punter, Hubbs, Richardson, and Mostella running and gunning.

I'm confident this team will be much better than people think. Like you say they are young. Let's give them time to warm up, gel, and feel each other out on the court. Once they get into the swing Of things I think we will be contenders and not push overs like most seem to think.

After all, we are VN!

(I agree with you, Auntie Dee.)

I don't expect much from the "nay sayers". But it's good to know that the team has some real supporters. I'm a Vol fan. So I'm going to sit back and enjoy the season win, lose, or draw.

I don't believe he is a pushover at all, but I also know that he is 6'8" and a freshman. I loved watching him play the last exhibition, aside from the lid he had on the rim.

Kentucky's bigs are probably on a level that hasn't been seen in college basketball.

It's really hard to play against any press without a true PG. I'm not sure people realize this. I love Richardson, but he isn't a PG.

Pretty much all of this. The mental aspect was the hardest for me.
