The VCU Game

Just a word of advice, for some, it gets ugly on here quickly at players and coaches when they struggle. Others prefer to discuss the game, coaching and players and try to be objective as to what is seen.
If Friday night is bad, the drunk and angry ones are the worst and will turn, so you will need to ignore a bit and realize most like that couldnt get a ball to the rim from the ft line.

Thanks Spartacavolus. I have prepared myself for the worst even if it's about Jabari. I promise to stay cool, calm, and collected...for the most part. Lol

Agreed but don't you want your best 5 out there,no knock on Reese but Moore is just better
Thats why instead of Dom at the five, Reese slides over at the 5 and Armani then becomes the four.

I was talking to my dad about the same thing, does anyone really expect Dom to start over Armani? Especially considering Dom struggles with conditioning and we're going against a full court press for 40 minutes.

Starting 5 according to Tyndall for VCU

Richardson
Punter
Hubbs
Reese
Woodson

Said he might also go small with

Richardson
Punter
Hubbs
Moore
Reese

Per his media session in the media thread Freak posted

I like the small lineup better. Only because Dom won't be able to give us the energy we will need at length.

I don't. I really don't expect him to start early this season. Of course, CDT may think differently.

starters still mean little right now. I'd expect several changes over the next few weeks as he finds out who plays well with each other, and hot players off the bench will end up playing more minutes than starters at times, so starting may not matter, especially going 9-10 deep.
I like the fact that we will bring equal or upgraded talent off the bench at times, rather than taking a step back and just buying minutes with subs.

I was just thinking. I only seen Pops play once and that was a pick-up game this summer. Do you think he would have been more productive than Dom in the exhibition games?

Dom has some skill. a little smoothness to his game at times. His steal at midcourt, left hand dribble to a left hand layup last game is something Pops can't give, and Dom's overall offensive game has more assets.

Yeah I'm not sure what vcu's bugs look like but when we play ky if Woodson is not able to play extended minutes it would be costly to put Reese at the 5 against towns I could see the line up for that being

Pg:rich
Sg:punter
Sf:hubbs
Pf:Moore
C:Owens or McGhee

I think Reese or Carmichael at the 5 if Dom ain't ready. Don't know if Owens will be ready physically considering his size and strength. And McGhee would need to improve his post game. McGhee is going to develop to more a 3/4 rather than 4/5.

The
Problem I have with Reese is does he know his role? I know tyndall said he has gotten better at buying into his role as a post like player, but he's always loved shooting jumpers, and with Carmichael I see him at the 4 but I guess he could run the 5 if needed

It's a circus. You may not want to get on here for real if we lose. It's crazy how some of our fans turn on our players. Just know that those people are the very small minority. Almost every vol fan appreciates what these player do for the university. I want to see Armani and Jabari on the court together some Friday, I love the energy they bring.

Reese can pick and pop like he did twice last game and can get the opposing 4 away from the basket, which increases passing/cutting/driving lanes for others and pulls a big man away from the boards.

That Is true but can he hit the shot consistently is my question

I got 2 tacos says you couldn't, especially with a hand in the face.

Kentucky's bigs laugh at this lineup. They're all 6'10"+ and most of them are lottery picks. Owens would be moved out of the paint and they would just go over McGhee. Dom has to play a lot in that game.

Pops was the worst basketball player I've ever seen suit up for UT.

I'm sure it is Stoked but I can take it. Seriously, I've heard worst in my hometown sitting around fans when Jabari had a bad night. If he didn't do a double-double they would blast him. I suspect it'll be bad. But I'm good.

Yeah I don't think our fan base realizes that it's the same with every fan base.

A couple of my players told me at practice yesterday that I was too old to shoot anymore. Then I called bank on 5 straight 3s from the wing. Shut them up. haha

shooters always have the release. I hadn't played in @ 8 yrs since I tore my achilles and went out a few weeks back. Not much lift in the legs at my age, but still able to spin some up there and knock em down.
Rim looks so tall now. Hard to believe I could get up there 30 years ago, but now I couldn't touch the net.
