The Trump-Russian connection and why both are doing what they are doing

For some strange reason, you do have to clarify that on here. It's bizarre how anyone who criticizes Trump on here is immediately assumed to be a liberal democrat. The household I grew up in was a Republican stronghold. My mother worked for Sen. Howard Baker in the 70's and worked for his presidential campaign in 1980. She became a friend of Joy's. I had the pleasure to meet Sen. Baker a few times and I think he would have been very sad and shocked to see Trump as the Republican Party nominee, jmo.

Small world, I also worked for Baker's campaigns in the 70's and 80's. Also worked for Jimmy Duncan. But as time went on I began leaning more to the dems, but now, at almost 65 years old, now consider myself independent. And yes, Baker would have called the dumpster out for what he is.

Tell that to Mr. Bloomburg. No spoonfeeding there. He laid it on the line last night, referring to Hillary as the sane one. And he's correct.

So there is not outrage that Clinton and the DNC rigged the election? Are we now a third world country where election rigging is just an after thought?

No outrage that Clinton and the DNC are soliciting donations for Federal cabinet appointments? So corruption does not bother the liberals? The very thing they preach about, you know the banks, Wall Street.

I am flabbergasted that not one democrat on this board cares what those emails contained.

Yoga, Webb's daughters wedding plans, recipes. No biggie right? If not, then why delete them? They are screeching about wiki leaks releasing more, yet the media covers her tracks with deflections, such as what Trump says about Russia.

I did not think Trump's comments yesterday were serious. Clearly, he was being sarcastic.

As I said before, I do not think Trump actually directed the hack. In fact, my guess is that the Russians routinely hack politicians and the parties. The issue is the release, and the timing.

People should ask why the Russians seem so motivated to help Trump win. Here's why:

Wow, it really is. Mom knew John Duncan Sr (passed in '88 I think), not sure about Jimmy. Mom used to rave about the work he did for his constituents. I don't think Knoxville has ever had a better public official.

And I'm pretty sure when I posted a link about Russians hacking Hillary's private email server you denied that it was true.

I'm sorry, I missed that. Went a few pages back and did not see it. Can you re-post the link "about Russians hacking Hillary's private email server"?

Thanks in advance.

That's pretty weak.

I think that if the Russians had hacked her server, we'd know about it by now. Plus the investigation found no evidence it had actually been hacked by any foreign interests.

I realize you believe differently. Well, let me rephrase. I realize you desperately want to believe otherwise. But people also want to believe in Bigfoot, too.

law, do you not understand that trump was joking.???

so lawgaytor, you're attacking russia for the perceived hack which is highly untrue. yet you refused to focus on the content of the emails and the sources of the emails.

why don't you guys worry about the people who originated the emails and their goals behind them.

You are so far behind the curve of this thread that it is not possible to have a conversation with you about it. Go back and read at least a few pages.

This is "ends justifies the means" logic... It is not okay for Russia to be hacking our institutions or private citizens. Trump did not emphasize that yesterday, by your own admission, he made light of it.

It's not ok for foreign gov'ts to hack us or our politicians, although we do it to them everyday. It's ok for our gov't to spy on a US citizen though.

right, so when there was a prior story about Russians hacking emails it was all speculation and partisan politics. But now there is proof Russians most likely did hack emails suddenly you are able to draw a connection that Trump was involved

For what must be at least the tenth time:

No, I do not think Trump directed, played a role in, or got a phone call about, the hacked emails by the Russkies.

I do think the Russian government would strongly prefer him over Clinton because they think he'd be more of a pushover on the Ukraine, and less likely to thwart their interventionism in Europe, generally. And that is in turn because Trump is unsophisticated about the issues presented.

And worse, when confronted with his ignorance, his response is to arrogantly proclaim himself right and accuse the questioner of bringing up an irrelevant issue. At least Palin had the sense to realize she did not know anything about these issues, and so she avoided them. Trump brags about his ignorance.

Oh, come on now! Trump watches the shows. You know, those shows on Fox News with the hot women in tight dresses?

LG, in case you missed it, Putin has had it great for the past eight years. The Obama administration went to them to "reset" (or in their words, overcharge) relations with Russian. Meanwhile, Putin took the ball and ran with it. Putin has largely done as he wants, he's thumbed his nose at the U.S., and he is knows damn well Obama will not do anything about it. It's clear to me and Vlad that Obama admires tyrants.

Hillary is an extension of the Obama presidency, the proverbial third term. Hell, she ran state for a while (some would argue with the veracity of my verb, but that's neither here nor there).

It seems you are projecting all the traits of the Obama administration on a man who has yet to serve a day in elected office.

FTR - I haven't read through the entire thread, because at first I thought it was just a masterful troll job. But the more I've seen it pop up, the more I've come to realize you may be serious.

Yeah, Ukraine wants their country back...

Or , do you blame this on Putin as well?

Your glib comments aside,I sense concern that this worries you greatly.

It should.

Let me weigh in from someone who is neither a Trump, nor a Hillary supporter. The concern is that such a huge percentage of the population is so easily distracted from the massive corruption that the emails exposed.

That is not true!

Reagan won in a landslide in 1980 while carrying a higher percentage of the Democratic vote than any Republican President has since... Reagan democrats.

How old are you?

AllPolitics - 1980 Debates Overview

Carter ticked off specific constituencies that had benefitted from his programs, and tried to depict Reagan as an irresponsible loose cannon on nuclear matters.

Reagan was depicted as a crazy, untrustworthy, lose cannon that couldn't be trusted with the presidency. As you mentioned, he won in a landslide.

On what date in 1980 is this alleged poll to have taken? and again, if you are seriously comparing Reagan to Trump, then there really isn't much else to say to you. That's just ridiculous.

Should we really take you seriously when the time machine just showed how clueless you are about this conversation? Twice.
