The essential problem is that while we have made improvements from last season, we are still depending on freshmen and sophomores to play like seasoned seniors. Before you jump on me to scream against the youth argument and trash the coaching staff, hear me out. Compounding this are two things: mismanaged and unchecked high pre-season expectations and the simple fact with playing time film study has revealed weaknesses the coaches have tried to hide. Dobbs is an extraordinary option running quarterback with accuracy issues in his throws. Contain him and force throws into coverage is a good defensive blueprint for UT. Without Maggitt, Barnett is drawing double teams. While Tuttle and McKenzie played well last night, our starters were worn down by Arkansas' O Line who carved out running lanes. Teams have exploited our green middle linebackers with crossing routes. Kirkland is athletic and will learn the role as we move forward, but the Mike has been exploited. Without North, Croom and Howard, we are relying on Malone who suddenly hears footsteps and has drops and Williams who is just not ready for SEC caliber defenders. He will emerge as a star, but he too needs time. Without Gaulden at nickel, we are relying a lot on Foreman who is undersized and out of his natural positions (scat back and slot receiver). This has resulted in critical penalties and poor coverage at critical times. The secondary has played out of position at times to make tackles resulting in a few but devastating big plays. Those missing starters have been difference makers in the three close losses. Yes there are other factors besides coaches and going for 1 and not 2. Last year, with those players absent, we get and were beaten more soundly. Florida is simply better than last year. Just ask Ole Miss.
I know there are a lot of angry posters here. The team is much closer to sustainable success. After Bama, I think we can win out. Georgia has QB issues and is a winnable game. We have shown that we could compete with them when the talent difference was bigger. I came into the season reasonably expecting 8 regular season wins with 9 if we stayed healthy and 7 if we had some injuries outside of Hurd, Barnett and Sutton.
We all hate losing and we all want to be nationally relevant. We have to get to 7 wins and have a top ten recruiting class to get there. GBO

No, it's not. The season is not even half way over. Even for all that has happened so far, this team and coaching staff can redeem itself.

That's the spirit...hang in there...:salute:
Now, somebody please tell me how you do the blue font again.

GO VOLS!

So has the sports media across the land, can't see this ending well at all

Poor Vowels

They didn't quit last night. They got whipped. Dobbs was awful and our offense is predicable. The defense got gashed but made stops. There was plenty of life after we blocked the field goal. These kids haven't quit. I really think Dobbs needs to be benched. The CEO needs to step down.

And funny, I guess he isn't angry since he told me to get bent first huh?

Like I said, your obsession with me is getting quite creepy.

First time I've been alerted to this "obsession". I've responded to a few of your posts. You this paranoid after a family member calls you on your birthday? :scare:

Sarcasm fails when you overdo it. :hi:

I dont believe the team quit on their coach. I think this team just sucks. There a few really great players, but the team stinks and it starts with Dobbs who cant hit the broad side of a barn.

The OK and FL losses were entirely on Jones and staff. Last night was on the whole team. That was definitely Derek Dooley era football being played by HIGHLY recruited players.

If so many fans wouldn't buy into the hype and keep a sensible head on there shoulders and be reasonable instead of boosting expectations up a year or 2, we wouldn't be having these meltdown threads!! Or meltdowns period!

CBJ and all media has said (preseason, before the hype began) that UT was still about a year and another great recruiting class away from being back to where they once was amongst the SEC's elite.

Then comes the media's hype and talking us up and then the fans jump on board and BAM expectations go from a 8-4 season to were goin 10-2 and winning te east. And then reality happens and we are a year and another great class away and this place melts down and erbody wants to Far butch n new coaches and starts throwing the players under the bus when just a few short weeks ago this was the best players n coache and we was back!!!!

Y'all wanna new coach then get ready to be bottom feeders for well ever cause y'all will never be happy unless the coach comes in the 1stbyear and wins a natty!!!! I read somewhere that Florida has done it right and yada yada yada but florida ha a roster full of talent sec talent. Everybody forgets we had nothing when Butch got here and even tho we now have some great talent, we still need depth.

And no I'm not happy with the season and yes I'm just as mad as everybody else at the 2 blown wins and last nights 2nd half meltdown. But I'm tryin to have a level head of where this program is vs where it was an where it's goin.

This is his 3rd year and you are saying expectations are 1-2 yrs ahead of schedule? It doesnt take 5 yrs to rebuild. It is evident by other coaches doing it. Butch is a terrible, and I mean terrible coach. I was listenign to Josh Smith interviewed the other day and he was saying things like, 'we feel like we are making strides in the passing game'. Ok, that's your 10th red flag. You have a junior qb who has plenty of game action, that went through spring/fall camps, with talented wide receivers and an above average tight end. The passing game should have been ready from game 1. You shouldnt be still trying to figure out your passing game a 1/3 into the season. Dobbs is a below average passer but most of this is on that Mickey Mouse coaching staff and their 'charts'. That's like Josh Pastner and his flash cards he uses during the game. You don't coach off of charts, and the chart evensaid to go for 2. That was an absolute blunder. Jones can't even sub people in and out of the game correctly without getting penalties, his game management is horrible, calls timeouts at the absolute wrong times, COACHES SCARED, etc. He has so many glaring deficiencies it is ridiculous. He's a salesman, and sells the program to kids/parents/high school coaches, but his sales pitch has been shot to the curb. He's been exposed by these three losses this year, and the kids and parents and everyone else sees it.

It's hilarious that some people really think a 14-16 start is just the process of getting to a championship team, and that something magical will happen to make Butch a winner. The "state of our program" and "youth" and "depth" is just stupid at this point. Quit acting like we have played 3 teams that "reloaded" from last year and were immune to the same possible excuses.

This just doesn't work anymore. Not when you have coaches doing it right in their first year without their recruits, WITH YOUTH & INEXPERIENCE. It just makes you accept that Butch' process is flawed. Folks, he's basically 1/2 way through yr 3 with two top 5/10 recruiting classes and he continues to lose brick by brick

It's as hilarious as fans who look at games like GA/UA and assume because UA whipped GA that we will win.

Ok. Enlighten us. Who do you hire? We now have a $13M surplus. That sounds like a lot, but for the scale of college football programs at this level, it is nothing. Bama has about 20x that. We were turned down 4 years ago by multiple big names, two of which were fired or soon will be (Strong and Muschamp). Gruden likes to tease us, but does not appear genuinely interested. Chip Kelly is not coming. I don't see Freeze leaving Ole Miss. Would our fan base support Dan Mullen?

Bash Butch if you want, but we are markedly better in talent than what he inherited. You want to dispel the youth and depth argument, show us what you are talking about. How many seniors do we have? How deep are we at quarterback, nickel, MLB, the O line? We fell from the top tier to the middle with Fulmer and went from the middle to the bottom under Dooley who had thanks to Kiffin an NFL offensive line, Bray, Hunter and Patterson. We are working our way up from being grouped with Kentucky and Vandy and having comparable talent. I was there for the Johnny Majors rebuild. Go look at that record. It was a long and frustrating process.

When he took over most reasonable people expected it to take 4-5 years to rebuild this program. In many ways Butch's ability to recruit is hurting him with unrealistic fans.

The UF fans are going to start coming out of the woodwork. Already seen two Gator flags flying around. What a pitiful bandwagon fanbase.

Boils down to three main issues. Coaching, dobbs, and o-line.

Thinking BJ is going to one day all of a sudden turn things around is so unbelievably naive. His decision making when it comes to personnel and who plays has reached new levels of low.

Dobbs is a 50% qb at best. Factor in his painfully slow twelve yard dropback and release and you're seeing a guy who shouldn't even be playing the position much less starting.

The o-line is still below average. Their instinct is to immediately drop back on their heels instead of playing forward. I'd like to see the statistic that shows how often we're losing yardage on second down.

It will be evident next Saturday

This. We're gonna get drilled by UGA and/or Bama. Likely both.

Butch is in denial. We are watching a repeat of the Last Days of Fulmer and Dooley. It isn't going to end well for Butch Jones.

So...on to the 2017 season, and the next chapter in UT Football.

Go Vols.

It was no different with Dooley. While it probably requires 4 to 5 to get to the pinnacle, it doesn't take that long to figure out if its possible.

Some cant see the difference.

Well, I'd start with a list of guys who didn't get their butt whipped by Derek Dooley and take a Sugar Bowl team to 4-7.
