THE stench of last year

The stench of last years team will take years to dissipate. I have gone to most home games since 1956, when Johnny Majors played safety and TB. I always thought that I could not live w/o watching the mighty Vols in the fall. Well, my life may be over soon, cause I will not attend a game until all the players returning from last years team ( the worst in 120 years) have left Knoxville. Call me a fair-weather fan ( I AM) if you like, last years fiasco cured my Big Orange Addiction.
I understand, but don't blame the players

How about just enjoy football as a whole? Regardless if you pull for UT or any other team. You should feel thankful you've seen UT in very highs and very lows, it's the game of football.

To each his own. I've been a Vol all my life. My dad before me. Honored to say I am a graduate of UT. I love all things Vol and this football team, every player included, is no exception. This is the lowest point I have ever seen our football program and I'm frustrated as Hell. But that didn't stop me from ordering my new Tennessee license plates this past Thursday for my Ford Bronco I just bought. They speak for themselves5FE2FDA6-7E97-4F1C-8C6A-0B294C8D5754.jpeg. Now I'm trying to keep my patience the 30 days is going to take to get them.

There are way too many fair weather fans:rolleyes:
I don’t think that’s true at all. There are a ton of us who are frustrated, even dispirited after what we’ve witnessed the last 10 years or so, yet here we are....the same place we’ve been for decades and decades, still pulling for the Vols, still hopeful that this or next year will be the year that turns it around, that kicks off the next great Tennessee football run. OP, who’s sentiment I can partially understand here, is the anomaly/outlier.

You've seen a lot of great football over the years as well as many ups and downs.
Don't allow one season, as terrible as it was, to rob you of your Big Orange pride.
May be a blessing that team underperformed and we got a new coach. It was obvious the team quit last year and that is why I feel this team actually has talent and could surprise a lot of people. The fair weathered fans and band wagon fans may be back this year. Hopefully!

You can bet your bottom dollar, many of the players check in and look through volnation. This attitude is unfortunate because it helps no one, except maybe you! If nothing else, now is the time to get behind this team, help build them up and see what they got.

If you are truly a UT fan, you'll be back on the bandwagon if UT beats UF.

If he was truly a UT fan, he wouldn’t bail. OP may just be venting frustration. I get it. I can’t count how many vulgar things I said about the team last year in my mind, esp at the end of that Florida game.

Either that or he’s trolling

After all those years of loyalty what a strange place to draw a line in the sand. You making a stand against the players? All of them? Blame Butch, blame currie, blame dipietro, even (especially) blame haslam. To boycott until they are gone makes some sort of sense, I guess....though in Haslam case, the boycott would last longer than a player's eligibility cycle I guess.

But to blame and boycott the player's as a whole, is no different than the people who spit on returning soldiers from vietnam.

It's misplaced anger manifested through a self important and childish worldview.

I guess you are old op. Thanks for proving that wisdom and maturity is never simply earned through accumulation of years and experience.

We’re not supposed to expect and demand a competent team, you know how it is.
It frankly amazes me that we still have a portion of the fanbase that continues to blame the fans for wanting and expecting to at least beat the Kentucky’s of the world, and to at least on some occasion, to be competitive with our biggest rivals.

T.R.O.L.L. Calling B.S. No one who has watched the Vols that long would say this, from personal experience. Bad boomer impersonation.

Sam Pittman has shown me this doesn’t have to be the case. They were 2-10 in back to back years, and generally speaking have been more competitive than we have been. But he hired a better staff, so there’s that.
