The Runner's thread

All I would say is be consistent. The best way to train for a half marathon is just get your body used to running (which it sounds like you've already been doing).

I never did more than a 5k for a race but I did 8-10 miles every day to train for them (1 miles warmup, stretchs, 5-6 miles workout, stretches, then miles or so cooldown). 10 miles is the most I did by myself though on one run.

Good luck.

That's insane. 8-10 miles every day will destroy you. I can't imagine running more than 3-4 days a week, especially at my age (37). Those recovery days are essential and allow for weights/strength/flexibility training.

The last 5 days had a sinus infection and couldn't breathe, couldn't run.

Doc, I just turned 41 and to be honest, my recovery has been very good. I started taking Testosterone last year because I was low and that has pretty much changed my recovery time on any workout.

I'll look up Higdon, I've heard that was the standard.

Took a much needed week off. Back at it last night. 3 miles at 7:28 pace. Felt good to get back. It was pretty obvious I needed a break.

Good couple of runs for me this week.

7.75 on Sunday at 1:08, probably my best run of the year.
5.2 today at 44.25, on of my better pace runs.

Four miles last night. 7:40 pace. Started too quickly and had to slow way down on the last mile to mile and half.

Weekly total 7

halfway through a five miler and I sprained my ankle. Had to take a shortcut and limp back. What makes it worse was that I was running with my Soldier, 1SG and XO when it happened.

Did 3.1 miles two times yesterday. Once at lunch and again in the evening running to CVS to drop movies off. Weight coming off slowly and getting my lungs back. Feels great.

One day I will start running again when I find a store that has my shoe size. Who knew size 13 was that uncommon.

That sucks. Where were you buying shoes?

I want the Salomon Speedcross. All my friends love theirs. I really liked my Minimus but after 15+ miles the trail would wear on my feet. Tried my local outfitter that carries Salomon but they only went to 12. Offered to order them if I paid for them. Not going to order something I've never tried on.

Makes sense. Sucks that you can't find shoes in your size.

Wife running her first half marathon tomorrow morning. Any suggestions? Night before meal, clothing, music, anything?

She placed 3rd in age group in a 10k this year and 100th overall. She is lightening fast. I don't even try to stay with her when we run.
