The Runner's thread

3.17 yesterday in the heat.

Ankles killing today. I'm not sure if it's shin splints or not. It's more on the outside of my ankles and pain runs up the side of my legs. Could barely put weight on one foot when I got up this morning. Ouch. Probably need better shoes as well.

Exactly what happened to me. Very likely time for new shoes.

Loving my current running schedule

Monday 6-8 miles
Tuesday basketball and weights
Wednesday 6-8 miles
Thursday basketball and weights
Friday 6-8 miles
Saturday basketball and weights 3 miles
Sunday rest

Down to 13.3% body fat

5 mile Company run yesterday followed by sprints.

3.2 miles on Wednesday, 3.4 Miles Monday. Going to start training for long distances again. Hopefully doing a Tough Mudder in November, a Half in January and going for my second Full Marathon in March. Goal is to get sub 4 hours in the full.

2 miles today in 14:07 and had so much left in the tank. Followed it with 5 miles on a bike. I hurt my wrist trying to swing through some thick stuff on the golf course and a month later any pressure I put on it with weights sends a pain up my forearm. My Platoon Sergeant is making me schedule an appt Monday to see what's up. It would appear lots of running and core workouts are going to be my only exercise for awhile. Good thing I love running I guess.

I'm going to miss hitting the golf course though.

Talked to a friend who is a Physical Therapist. She did say new shoes are a must before I start running again.....said I should probably take a week or two off and let soreness heal. And asked about 500 questions about where/when the pain is (heal strike, flat feet, balls of feet). Came up with my feet kinda point outward so that causes pain on outside of ankle. And of course just started few months ago and have been pushing myself hard.

She mentioned the vibram 5 fingers....I just don't think I can do it. I've seen people wearing those and it freaks me out. :) Also mentioned Fleet feet and have them assess my gait and get fitted. Seems expensive.

Sucks cause I was diggin the running and definitely losin some gut.

Fleet Feet only charges you for the shoes. Not the service.

I have talked to a few people who have the Five Fingers and all of them recommend walking around in them for a month or two before actually running in them because they cause you to use some different muscles in your lower legs and can cause some soreness or discomfert until your lower legs get used to them.

I went to Fleet Feet while I was in Knoxville for the Mizzu game and got fitted for shoes. It was probably the smartest thing I have done since I started running. And Voxx is right they don't charge you for getting fitted. Just whatever shoes you purchase.

Any of you guys dumb enough to try running with a mild rib injury? Heh.

as AAvoxx says they don't charge for the service.

Also, I would like to give my opinion on the vibram...I hate them. I wore them 1 time to run, and I didn't like them.

I do like minimalist running though. I am more of a kinvara kinda guy.
