The Runner's thread

I ran in college at UTC back in the early-mid 90s and they have a nice running community with several groups that you should be able to find something that works for you.

I am going to check into this and see if I can find something. Surely I will be able to.

I'm in what they call East Central Indiana. Extremely flat, void of sidewalks, and every 'trail' is either paved or concrete. There is actually a decent active community here so it could be worse.

Been to Indiana several times. Hate that its so flat. Going there from Portland would suck.

1.53 in 15 flat today. I decided that 63 is the perfect temperature to run in.

Weekly Total: 9.21 miles

3.2 last night 7:42 pace. About two miles in my right hamstring started to tighten up and I had to slow down and walk a few times to keep from completely shutting down my run. Temp last night during my run was 58. Pretty good weather to run in. Supposed to be in the 70's tomorrow so I will try and take advantage and run tomorrow sometime. Total for the week so far 9.7.

5 miles in the rain. Caught and passed 2 mtn bikes going downhill. it was wet & slick and they were going painfully slow but still proud of it.

Ran again yesterday. Still can't run an entire mile without walking some of it. But, over the 3 miles, I did a lot more running than walking. I'd guess that I prob ran close to 2 miles over all, and walked the rest. I'll take anything as a measure of progress.

That's fine. Do what you can

For many people in a marathon they will go faster by taking walking breaks than by trying to run the whole thing.

6 miles complete in 46 mins. Think my Nike+ app GPS is not accurate. Going to calibrate the GPS settings on a track when I run tomorrow.

Ran 5 today at a 10 min/ mile pace. Still running at a slow pace but was able to run 5 straight

6.5 today. I think I'll start leaving my dog at home on the long runs. She's an extremely well behaved dog, but it's draining just having to be aware of where she's at and making sure she keeps up. I also ran at Sequoyah today, I was going way too fast, I'm not used to running with that many other people on the trail.

Weekly Total: 18.91 miles

Week 2 is complete.

Also, weighed in at 210.8 this morning. Loss of 1.2 lb this week. It's been a couple years since I've been under 210, and I was no where near as healthy then. Looking forward to being sub 210 next Saturday.

Had big plans of going trail running this morning before my sister came in town and that got blown up by baby sitting duties. Hoping I can take advantage of this warmer weather tomorrow and hit a trail.

Run 2.5 miles down the mountain then run/hike 2.5 miles back to the top. Repeat 3x. 15 miles done.

3.2 today in wet weather. First mile was 7:39 second mile was 7:28 and final mile was 7:13. Felt good today. Good temp out too 68.

When y'all do your intervals how are y'all doing them? I have been just using a track and sprinting the straight aways and walking the curves. Doing this as many times as I can stand it.

10 minute warm up
1-3 minute max
1-3 minute active recovery
Repeat 6-12x
10 minute cool down

I've read it's better to do timed intervals than distance intervals. If you go by distance your recovery period will subconsciously get longer when you get tired. Timed intervals forces you to not cheat on the recovery.

You going full out sprints or just doing above your normal pace?

I'm on the road traveling and had to run on a treadmill this morning. Man that sucked. So boring running in one place

I do 60-120s. Sixty second full sprints and a two minute walk/jog. A good trick is to use the treadmill so that you can't cheat your full sprints. It helps to have someone work the buttons though so you don't bust your face!

This is probably the only time I will ever recommend a treadmill.
