The Runner's thread

Good work

Thanks Tri. Question for you guys. Do you breathe in and out through your nose when running? A friend of mine who runs told me to do that and I've taken their advice. Seems difficult at first but I seem to not suck wind that bad

I have heard in through the nose and out through the mouth. I have heard in and out through the nose and I have heard in and out through the mouth. I think you have to find what works best for you. I started with in through the nose and out through the mouth and now I breath in and out through the mouth. Anyone else have any acutal knowledge about this?

I'm glad to know that too. My stepson is the one who explained why my tongue hurts. He's a mortician.

5 miles but the best part was laying on a grassy knoll stretching at the end. Gentle breeze, birds chirping, clouds moving swiftly across the sky and the distant roll of thunder. Surreal.

I swear I am coming to run where ever it is that you run. You make it sound so nice plus the pictures you have posted are amazing! :eek:k:

anytime but I must warn you that I'm slow. Used to run for mileage and training then decided this year to change. I'm never going to win or even place in a race so why kill myself training. Still push my limits but I take the time to stop and snap a picture or enjoy a view. I'm trying to savor my runs. I find my running is more fun now and I haven't lost any "speed". :)

Running got a lot more enjoyable for mr once I divested myself of any illusion that I could be "fast" or competitive... I compete only with myself and my times (howevever mediocre) are acceptable to me and any improvements are appreciated but not necessarily needed to keep me motivated. The only thing i really want to do is break 2 hours for a half Marathon. Who was the guy who used to write for Runners World nicknamed the Penguin? I think his last name is Bingham. He wrote some really good articles about being a slow runner.

During my first half marathon people would be passing me and I had to keep telling myself that it didn't matter what they ran. All that matter was that I finished the race and that I obtained my goal of finishing the race under two hours. I have to keep telling myself while I am running that time doesn't matter and all that matters is that I finish the distance that I am running.

I can honestly say that his thread has fueled my passion for running. Thanks to all those that post in this thread for helping me along the way

Starting back this week from my half. I missed running this past week. Ready to get back into the routine and actually feel good and not sluggish.

Did 3 miles today but had to stop for a minute and walk twice. Tried not to get frustrated just had a bad day I guess

Everyone is at a different point running. I can't keep up with the guy that has a running store in Cookeville. Can't let it get to you
