The Runner's thread

Still have my first half marathon finisher medal & framed my marathon finisher medal.

My wife talked about framing my medal and my shirt together but I told her I wanted to wear the shirt some more before I put it up. It was a nice dry fit type of shirt, so I will wear it when I run or workout some more.

I did that for my first full marathon. (framed the medal, certificate of completion, and a picture of me finishing) That guy that was beside me at the finish will always have a special place in my house.

Mine was a trail marathon so they did this really cool course map with elevation profiles on a piece of fabric. Wife framed it with my medal, bib & a picture of me running. It looks cool.

I don't know if any of you are fimilar with Chattanooga but there are tons of hills downtown and this is where they had the race Saturday. I had a hard time with the hills. Part of the reason why my time was slower than I have been tracking for during my training. My question is this.. besides adding hills into my training runs is there anything else that yall can recommend to help my prepare for the hills a little better?

Hill repeats. They suck but work. Run 30 secs all out up hill, jog back down, repeat 4x. Make the last effort just as strong as the first. Add 1 or 2x every week till your doing 10-15 repeats then increase the time. Make sure you run a mile or so before and after to warm up and cool down.

Did neither. Cooked dinner then ran around the front yard with my boy. Not good for training but more fun.

My favorite video. Ever.

:eek:lol: that's a pretty funny video... kinda scarey too because I have heard some of those same comments from some of the people I work with.

If you don't run... you won't understand!

The absolute Zen like feeling of running at dusk/night in the woods
Feeling alive & free
The mountaintop
Everyones excitement prerace & satisfaction post race
Accomplishing something most people don't
Being in shape
Guilt free ice cream & beer

Sense of accomplishment for sure. I love the fact that you can run and "zone out" and think about anything that's going on in your life. If you have a bad day.. go run to relieve the stress instead of doing something destructive. I love the way your body feels after a good run. Man, I wanna go run right now... thanks a lot guys... gotta wait til after work now!!
