The Runner's thread

Ultra marathons? Dude you are crazy. Any ironmen in your future?

Ultras arent that bad. :)

I'm not that good of a swimmer. Did a few Xterra sprints. When I go back to tri it will be full distance xterra. I like the woods.

i've never run in Mizuno's but i've always heard good things. I'm still trying to get over a high ankle sprain.

My first was a Wave Creatio earlier this year. They were decent, but I went to the Asics Kinsei and really liked. I'm a neutral runner for the most part but weigh about 220 so need some support. Running shop sold me on the Wave Prophecy and it looks like they might be right. First run out of the box and they fit perfectly with support everywhere. The cutaway forefoot looks odd, but the resulting forward lean just makes the transition to the toes quicker. I'll buy these forever unless they don't hold up at all.

Yeah, the swimming has been holding me back a little also. Planning on really working on that this winter. I am also looking to try an xterra sometime soon.

any of you guys read the book Born to Run? Great read. Been suffering through a calve issue but would like to experiment with barefoot running when I get more form back someday.

It is a good book. I run primarily in Five Finger shoes now and my shin splints and hip pain went away. Took me several years to convince my wife who isn't a runner to use them when she occasionally runs. Her shin splints vanished almost immediately also. If you go the barefoot route, work into it slowly. Your body takes time to adjust.

They are great races and very well staffed. The race directors really do a good job.

I just signed up for a tough mudder, has anyone on here done one of these?

Been to one. I know a bunch of girls trying to form up a team to do the circuit. It looks like one of things you either enjoy or hate.

Be sure to wear a pair of shoes you dont mind losing or destroying.

You're serious with this? What do you weigh?

Serious. First 3-4 weeks my calves hated me. I was heel striker and five fingers helped me convert to mid foot strike, shorten my stride keeping my stride under my hips. Think those changes helped eliminate the issues. I weigh 185 lbs.
