The Runner's thread

I have a gym question,
I'm 57 years old 6'5 now 275lbs I will get down to 245 I can live with that..

I'm back going to the gym, on my diet do it ever year.
This time of year. I will drop 30lbs, my routine at the gym is treadmill 2 miles run and walk. bike 3 miles.. I get on the Elliptical machine for about 1/2 a mile..
I just never use that machine much..

Should I spend more time on the Elliptical than the treadmill???
What will help me the most/fastest?
Thanks
..

The elliptical will be easier on your joints and you will get just as good of a cardio workout using the elliptical. It really just depends on whether your knees bother you while you run or not.

Just keep up with your diet and try to burn as many calories as possible.

No knee issues, that is just the routine I got into a few years back.
Thinking about it that does make more sense... duuuu better on your body.
10 years ago I used to run 5 miles every day. Well ran at night
I will start up with Ellip
Thanks

A sluggish 3 miles tonight. Plan was for a easy 5 miles, but legs weren't there so I cut it short.

I have the Strawberry Plains 10k this Sat. Anyone else running this event in Knoxville?

I saw it and thought about it, but I'm saving my legs for the Dark Hollow Wallow.

I can now run 2 miles nonstop with ease whereas just a few weeks ago 1 mile was a struggle. I've been muscle bound the last few years since I stopped playing football and continued to lift (no longer ran up and down the field). I've dropped about 10lbs since I began running. My strength has begun to decrease too but I'm ok with it. I've accomplished all of my strength goals I set out for (except benching 405, I only got 350 :( ) and I'm ready for the mean and lean look again like I had in high school when I played ball.

Played basketball today. I was planning on getting in a couple miles afterwards but I managed to get a blister on the top of my 2nd smallest toe on my right foot. I'm going to have to wrap it in some tape tomorrow before I try to run with it. Any other suggestions?

pop the blister, remove any puss and whatever else. I use moisture wicking running socks and for really long runs I use the Glide stuff over my feet.

Just got three pairs of Nike Dri-Fit socks. (got them for free) I have only ran in them three times so far but they seem to work pretty well.

I run in either Swiftwick (made in TN even) or Brooks running socks. The toe socks are supposed to do wonders, I've just never been able to convince myself to buy a pair.

They feel weird at first but they are really comfortable.

4 miles this morning. up & down a mountain.

All I wear are Thorlos. Best running socks around

I wear under armour socks and have never really put much thought into socks since I've never ran a hole in a pair or gotten blisters of any sort. Do socks really make a difference? I know shoes do and I spent $120 or so and a really decent pair for my flat feet. They've done wonders for my running, squatting, deadlifting, etc.

I always think Im dumb for spending $10-15 on a pair of socks till I wear them. It's like wrapping your feet in awesomeness.

Huge difference IMO. Try one pair of nice socks and you'll be hooked!
