The Reason Fulmer is Retiring

The university would look real stupid in court hiring someone who was previously fired for recruiting violations, to replace someone who was fired for the same reason. Take this to the bank as much as think it would be a great choice, he WILL NOT be hired at Tennessee. Did you listen to the presser the university is about integrity, we are looking for saints.
Sean Payton?!?

Your post makes it seem as though Freeze is at the top of the list. After the 'integrity' speech at the presser, I would have to think that would disqualify him completely, and I'm not sure he was ever desired by anyone except the fans.
Did you forget how Currie talked up how he was going to do an extensive search to find a proven winner when Schiano was already the guy?

I still believe Steele was brought here to be hc. I really hope I am wrong, but just doesn't make sense for him to come here knowing hc was on the hotseat, unless he was promised hc job.
Personally believe he was brought in to be the dc for the next coach.
Next coach is more than likely in waiting.
All this played out to long for everything to not be in order. New ad and coach
More than likely have been chosen.
Now it’s a wait and see whom those 2 are.

Yep, I think the ‘Plan’ likely involves Steele as HC. A possibly brighter alternative is Steele as DC/mentor and Chadwell...et al as HC.

I suspect you are right, though, and KS will be announced as our interim HC with the understanding that 6-7 wins gets him the job.

That was announced at the presser

Yep. Just like when he was HC. A respected man gets the option to fall on his sword. That being said, it was time to go. Fair winds and following seas Phil.

The answer he gave makes sense, whether you believe he was forced to retire or face being fired.

The new coach, whoever that will be, will want to know who his AD is for the foreseeable future. Fulmer basically said he has no desire to live out his geriatric life as the AD, so the timing was right to step down now.

I'm going with that. However they probably did not give him a choice in the matter since all this happened directly below his nose, knowledge or not.

It was obvious that Fulmer was given the choice to step away or else. The press conference was full of bad actors. I get their nice sentiments and kind words to Fulmer, but it was over the top.

When asked if he was gonna be part of hiring his successor, he nearly got teary eyed and chocked up... He didn't know how to answer and stated if he's asked he'll help. It's like it was just hitting him in that moment.

It felt as if the Chancellor and President kept reiterating it to not tarnish their relationship with him........

Just my take....

Fulmer justgave himself an extension this summer. They gave him a way out!

While you're not wrong, so what? Does it change anything? The point is he is no longer going to be overseeing the athletics of UT and that's a good thing. Whether or not they allowed him to save face, doesn't matter to me.

The boosters have spoken. And Fulmer not only had to go, but was forced to do so because he was unwilling to hire Hugh Freeze. And instead, he tried to hang on to Pruitt for as long as he could, relying on convincing them that Pruitt was the way forward for now. Once he wasn't going to be able to do so, it was over for him, just as much as it was for Pruitt.

Mark this post. Even if the topic gets merged, this particular story and more specific information will come to light.

Edit: Considering the hammer that's coming down on us, barring any incredible contract offer, it's unlikely that Freeze is interested in the job until this is behind us.

I know money talks - both in terms of the University's plans, as well as Freeze's. But based on what Boyd and Plowman said yesterday, they'll be eating their own words if Freeze is the hire. You don't say the things they said about integrity, if someone with Freeze's history is even a consideration.

Indeed. Freeze told my uncle he’s no longer interested due to the incoming infractions. So, I was wrong.
