The private vs. public education debate (split from QB thread)

congratulations. Your phenomenal HS education got you into Austin Peay and honed your reasoning skills to about those of the average public school 8th grader.

Sorry your family lived in a single wide and did not have the means to send you to a private school. APSU was due to a full athletic scholly! I was accepted to Vandy, Richmond, and William & Mary. It helped.

What I said is not a blast against public schools. But, as a whole, most pvt are better than public. The grads are not better people, just better prepared for college. That is all.

So......BigPapaVol........ slooooooow down with your slam of me. I'm sure your great education has moved you into a SWEET double wide!!! "Life is Good"!!!:moon2:

If your education and massively wealthy parents trained you so well that you would choose APSU over Vandy, Richmond or W&M, then you should promptly demand a refund and be swatted daily for absurdity.

I didn't go to private school and likely could not have afforded it. However, I was offerred scholarships to several private schools in Nashville and turned them all down. It just wasn't the route for me.

I did happen to go to a private school for my graduate studies and it did do enough for me to get me into a double wide. Your wealthy parents and education got you exactly - what? You certainly appear senseless in conversations on this board and from what I've read you're a golf coach. Again, you should ask for every cent back and make those stuffed shirts cower in fear that you might sue them for patently false advertising.

C'mon Peay Golfer. You're better than that.

Sounds like you might need to be taken out to the course for a reality check.

If you guys want to expatiate the virtues of public versus private education, start another thread. This thread is for the discussion of football, namely UT's future QB. If you want to have a pissing contest about public vs private, crips vs bloods, sprinkles vs. nuts or boxer vs briefs, this isnt the thread.

Thanks :salute:

If you have big problems with threads wandering massively off course, you might consider another way to spend your time. Such wanderings are part and parcel to VolNation.

....and welcome.

I went to a private school and I can honestly say that it was instrumental in helping me graduate. The guys that I ran with from Hendersonville didnt and I would have been right there with them.

Hey...I'm not afraid of any discussion! I have my values and opinions, and others have theirs. That is fine and great.

I will not shy away from any debate. I think I'm correct. I "could" be wrong, but don't think so.

My off base comments are based on the comments of others. If you do not like to be insulted, DON"T INSULT OTHERS!!!!

My parents worked double to pay for my private school education. My college education was based on my ability to be a very good player, not based on where I went to high school. If not for sports, William & Mary was my school. So...KISS MY ARSE!

unless you thought you could be a professional golfer, that's the worst college decision I've ever even heard of. If you did think you could be a pro and APSU was the best team offering, maybe your parents should have stepped in and provided some "guidance", especially after working so hard to educate you.

Why not play for the Spiders? W&M has a team? Wake has a GREAT team. Surely those were available. If you were so bent on a mediocre school with good golf, you could have headed to Clemson, right?

I am a professional golfer and did play professional golf. I did well at the pro level, but was not good enough to play on the PGA Tour. Not many are. I am ok with that! I did play mini tours and overseas.

Each athlete makes his/her decision (college) based on many reasons. I know why I made APSU my decision. I'm happy with it! I had a great time at the Peay. We won many tourneys and I was successful as an individual.

You are taking this way to far! Point is simple....Don't insult me because I went to a private school and have a loyalty to those schools! Grow up!

I didn't insult you because you went to a private school. I insulted you because you said private schools are better, implying you're better for having gone to one. I vehemently disagree. I have seen nothing from you that bears out the better comment toward private schools. That's the basis of my comment. I don't really care if you're loyal to private schools. Doesn't make a whit to me.

I believe in public education and think that the private school mentality hurts our public programs because it removes caring parents and generally decent students from the rolls. That's a negative side effect of private schools, but I'm not down on anyone that chooses the private route. I am down on anyone that says, as you did, that private schools are better, period.

Lack of parenting is the biggest issue effecting public schools.

Kids need the proper care, nurturing and learning at home in order to make public schools a success.

I'm so sorry for this......

Your Liberal Views are silly! The private education system is better. LOOK AT THE FACTS. It is not the way it should be. Public schools " SHOULD" be better, but they are not!

seriously calling me a liberal? that's funny as hell.

the system is not remotely better. The parents and students might be better from self selection, but the teachers are often the lowest paid. Additionally, some parents are just delusional about their kids' ability...

There could be a wide range of views regarding public vs private education depending soley on where you live. Some cities have decent schools and some have terrible schools. Most large cities have the later. IMO, private schools are more likely to provide an environment conducive to learning than that of public schools.

they are very likely to have a better learning environment, but to imply that people learn more or better is just incorrect.

Moreover, they are likely to foster elitism and other ideas that noboby agrees with either.

I'm not trying to knock private schools, just the elitist mentality that Peay has about it.

I hear ya. I went to a catholic school and work for the public schools so I've seen both ends of the spectrum. In no way did my private school education foster any type of better than you mentality but I feel that I did get a quality education.

I would tell you what I really think of public schools and why they are so bad but it wouldn't be PC and we are no longer allowed to discuss facts in this country b/c we may offend someone.

I know one of the reasons public schools are hurting is because many of the more caring and more influential parents (who make a huge impact on schools) simply avoid the issue by electing to pay for private schools. I understand the mentality and it's tough to decide otherwise when you feel it's a risk to your own child, but it's a long term loser for the public education system.

it's really clever to complain about the turn that a post has taken, then to come back of your own free will and act like the post is boring you?

Are you bored like my 4 year old gets when he's trying to read Herman Melville?

Really, you think thats clever?

I dont....in fact its about as UNCLEVER as this incessant bickering about something as juvenile where you went to school. However, I keep coming back to this thread hoping that sanity has returned to both of you and that the discussion has returned to something useful and informative. I dont know, call me crazy but something pertaining to hmmmm....I KNOW, UT FOOTBALL!

I think you both need to get over yourselves and submit to the one universial truth...... Gators suck!

It's about where he went to school and his thumbing his nose at where the vast majority went to school. If that bothers you, start another thread or simply don't come back to this one.

Frankly, I don't care where he went to school.

The gators are not likely to suck this season.
