Literally
John 3:16.

Shall not perish, but have everlasting life.

there are 2 options. Life and death
God gave his only begotten son to save us from our sins.

I believe he went through all that, no way to explain it to do it justice, for us and to save us from hell. Not just a peaceful death.

Seems harsh, but OT shows he can be. All we have to do is obey our creator.

Eternal Punishment is death of the soul. The second death I believe it shows YHWHS mercy
eternal torment is burning in hell forever, no second death doesn’t show mercy and it equals eternal life but a really bad one.
Just my thinking process

All good points
But John is leading up to the proclamation in 3:16 and chose to say “shall not die, but have everlasting life”.
If the options are life in hell or life in paradise then why confuse the reader.
2nd. History is on my side. The concept of eternal torture doesn’t exist in any Christian writings before 300ad and we have a lot of them to look at.

Matthew 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
It will never change..... The scriptures are forever settled in heaven!

Have you read them all? If not, how do you know?

So are you agreeing with me?

Have you ever seen anyone die?
I’ve been there 3 times. Have not seen a peaceful death yet

Is that punishment death or burning in hell forever?
New oxfords word study now says the appropriate word there is death not punishment. But they’re just comparing ancient literature to see how the word was used everywhere else.

The state of Tennessee isn’t concerned with that.
The state clearly sees it as a more harsh punishment. That’s why we don’t do it very often
I believe if I was on death row and had received Jesus and was going to heaven, I'll show myself to the chair.

I don't believe God would let his son die on the cross to forgive us of our sins to just let someone be tortured in hell for a sin. And what sin? A sin is a sin all sin is the same so if you stole a meal to eat is that person going to burn in hell? Didn't Jesus die on the cross to forgive us of our sins? He even died to forgive us of sins 2000 years down the road. If he knew our sins and sins we would commit then he knows are every move from birth to death . And God is love . Love brings people together. If you want more Christians then you show love teach love teach them God.
