The Official Rick Barnes discussion thread

Barnes is plenty successful enough to hang it up when he decides to retire. He has built a nice culture of winning here, especially in regards to what we were as a basketball program before he came. When he decides to hang it up, then we hope Danny White hits a home run hire and we build off the winning reputation Barnes has delivered here.

This probably happnes in the real near future (Barnes retiring). Until then, we enjoy seasons like this one where we are without doubt one of the top 8 teams in college basketball. A team with a REAL chance of making it to a final four, and from there anything can happen.

I'm telling you dude, firing Barnes abruptly will do absolutely nothing but set us back.
He's been the HC since 2015. So there's nothing abrupt about it. Top 8? If I'm DW...I've already shopped around for a number of reasons.

I’m thanking my lucky stars for the Rick Barnes era. If you’re one who has some disappointment, hey my opinion’s no more right or wrong than yours. But consider this. First time we’ve won 22 games in a season, four times in a row… ever. First SEC Tourney title since Don DeVoe in 1979. Sixth outright SEC championship last year. We’re putting banners in rafters.

Everyone wants to win everything all the time. That’s fandom. It maybe doesn’t sting most people pulling for most teams, because most teams aren’t in a position where that’s remotely realistic. There’s not some Quinnipiac fan site where they’re all saying fahr whoever because they haven’t become Cinderella enough after scaling the lofty heights of the Metro Atlantic.

Sometimes a loss stings because we know we’re capable of achieving anything. Anything at all. And we’ve got Barnes to thank for that luxury.

🤣🤣🤣 If I'm DW....I would have STARTED THE SEARCH a year or two ago. Quietly, privately mind you. Why not...he as close to retirement any anyone for one. But he has HISTORY, personal HISTORY...he's living up to it...so far. But you wish to deny all that. Good for you. I'm done with him if what I believe is the inevitable outcome in the NCAA.
But you're not DW. Thank God

The basic difference (not that there are only 2 positions) is that some like where we are and don't mind if the peak has been reached basically for years to come if ever for various reasons. Others expect to gain more with the players and coaches that are here now.

Let each side do what it likes.
This is just as dumb as your other posts. There are more than two sides to it

Spoken like a true troll or someone who doesn’t follow basketball.

Oh, let me be clear now. IDGAF...this coach has had 15 +/- years.to figure it out. He has YET to do it. I am DONE with he azz after this year, personally, assuming what I believe will happen in the NCAA. How F'ing sad is it you could have gone all the way....if you would have gotten out of your own stupid ways.
Have you tried Midol?

Everyone wants to go to the FF. But I guess some just think it’s an easy feat. So easy that our school has never done it. He’s taken our program to unbelievable heights from what he inherited, and we have fans who don’t appreciate it. Kind of embarrassing.

You seem to have all the answers, who realistically do you replace Barnes with and Pearl is off the list. Answer has to be reasonable, no Brinks truck.

If you are done with him, why comment then? Shows your maturity and skill set. Get over it or move onto another sport or team.

I commented because the title literally said "The Official Rick Barnes discussion thread". It didn't say positive comments only.....

I didn't ask for positive comments, I asked you who is your recommended replacement, minus Pearl? You identified in your eyes a problem, so what/who is the the solution? You just toy with the notion and make statements, mostly negative. Criticize all you want, your opinion, but do it plausaby with facts. Fine your opinion can say what you want, but take responsibility and accountability for your opinions. Don't need problems, need solutions. Team played flat last night I guess you think CRB had something to do with it. He is the coach, but not a player.
You got a lot to learn and growing up to do...
Your solution? Reflects your young mind. Advice: After you figure out the answer, try again because it is probably wrong.

I didn't think we played that flat. We just couldn't stop Brakefield from making some tough ass shots. Several of their players were making tough, contested shots. OleMiss is a solid tournament team. We were only 2.5 pt favorites

Yep. The last I checked Barnes wasn’t out there rebounding nor was he guarding Brakefield. (Unfortunately nobody else was either.) Definitely think we were out hustled in the second half. Don’t know if that was fatigue or not but with our limited bench and with some guys sick, it could be. Whatever it was, we didn’t have our usual effort in the second half.

Looked like a perfect storm to me. Coming off a huge win, on the road against a tournament team and one guy going unconscious. Our bigs aren’t quick enough to stay with Brakefield and Mashack is too small to guard him. The only guy we have in Brakefield’s size range with the quickness would be Dubar but he is a defensive liability on a good day. And let’s face it, he had one of those once in a lifetime halves of basketball and it was unfortunately against us. It happens.

Know you didn't ask me, but if you had, I'd say the guy at Vandy. Know that's blasphemous, but the dude has an eye for talent and obviously can certainly coach. Plus, it hurts Vandy. Don't like the fact that they're having success in hoops again.

I am still waiting for you to explain how Rick Barnes does not achieve, but Bruce Pearl does.
Can I play? Only thing I can think of is Pearl has a final four to his name and Barnes does not. Over the last decade tho, Barnes has every bit the record that Pearl does and we've been higher in the final rankings for the most part.
