Which posters wanted to run off Barnes last year and hire the USCjr coach?
Barnes took Texas to the FF in 2003. Unless you meant he doesn’t have a FF to his name at Tennessee. Can I play? Only thing I can think of is Pearl has a final four to his name and Barnes does not. Over the last decade tho, Barnes has every bit the record that Pearl does and we've been higher in the final rankings for the most part.
Right. Im talking career wise. Barnes has a final 4, just not here. You’re right, it’s crazy to say Pearl “actually achieves” “overachieved ” and Barnes doesn’t.Can I play? Yep...we played soft. That isn't just me saying it, that's what Barnes said after the game.I didn't think we played that flat. We just couldn't stop Brakefield from making some tough ass shots. Several of their players were making tough, contested shots. OleMiss is a solid tournament team. We were only 2.5 pt favorites
I really don’t get the fascination with Pearl. He was already our coach and we’ve already seen how far he got us. He spectacularly burned bridges on his way out by lying to the people who had to answer for him to the NCAA, so he’s definitely not coming back. If Pearl is your coach, cheer for Auburn. There's more Bruce Pearl window lickers in this forum than you think. After most losses here they come out of the woods...
It's often said...and I believe it to be true....it's a combination of the type of players Barnes looks for along with his defensive system. His primary concern is finding elite defenders first and foremost. His system has shown over the years that it takes a toll on his teams as the season wears on. Certainly impacts shooting at times. On the flipside, you get a team of guys who are only interested on the offensive end and don't care a lick for defense and you'll have games where you can't spit in the ocean offensively with nothing to fall back on. I think I prefer Barnes system, but if you don't have the bench that can contribute, it's going to catch up with you eventually. This year was a bit of a perfect storm for Barnes. Picture this team with both Carr and Estrella available. I think we'd certainly have been a 1 seed. Lanier would have looked even better if teams can't focus on him as much as they currently do. We don't have a Knecht to the rescue this year. Gonna need lots of rest and a favorable draw to get to the sweet 16 in the NCAAT. My fear is that we'll actually start to believe that what we do or don't do in the SECT means a thing. I'd rather just be one and done in the SECT and focus on the big dance. It's way more important to our program and recruiting that our performance in the SECT.Barnes is a great regular season coach, but really is stuck in S16,
Last season was an aberration because of Knecht. This year's
team is back to the inconsistent offense which will sink the team
somewhere before the EE.
I thought the same thing. Seem decent. I don't think he would leave Vandy. He was a great hire for them.Know you didn't ask me, but if you had, I'd say the guy at Vandy. Know that's blasphemous, but the dude has an eye for talent and obviously can certainly coach. Plus, it hurts Vandy. Don't like the fact that they're having success in hoops again.
Left Tennessee in a mess, NCAA investigations, and coaching purgatory.Right. Im talking career wise. Barnes has a final 4, just not here. You’re right, it’s crazy to say Pearl “actually achieves” “overachieved ” and Barnes doesn’t.
There are only two things Pearl has done that Barnes hasn’t done:
1. Secretly record a kid and get blacklisted from D1 coaching for years.
2. Get a show cause penalty
Our offensive efficiency is currently higher now than it was last year. I guess that doesn’t help your theory.Barnes is a great regular season coach, but really is stuck in S16,

I'm not sure Byington wouldn't make the jump. Vandy will never commit to sports the way UT does except maybe baseball. I think we could pull him. Having said that, I think White will find a google name to replace Barnes when the time comes....and I don't mean that in a bad way. Just think he'll dance to his own tune when making hires. Thankfully, he's strong with hoops so I suspect he will grab a solid up and comer, but you don't easily replace a HOF coach like Rick Barnes. Not sure you can. Not looking forward to the day he retires. Solid...rock solid man.I thought the same thing. Seem decent. I don't think he would leave Vandy. He was a great hire for them.
There are not many out there that would move from there cozy spots to come here. Rick Pitino would never be an option for me and I don't think he would come if offered.
Replacing a Legend like CRBs will not be an easy task and I though they were possibly grooming Kim English.
Who knows for sure when CRB's is retiring.
I'm not sure Barnes especially looks for guys who are good defensively. I think he wants players who are willing to learn to play defense better but are already accomplished offensive players. I say this because many of the guys we get say they came here to learn from Barnes. It's often said...and I believe it to be true....it's a combination of the type of players Barnes looks for along with his defensive system. The ones who showed up at school with the most talent.I have no answer to this but BP is a great recruiter as is CRB
My question is how many players has CBP put in the NBA vs CRB.
If I am looking at a player from both of these coaches with close to identical stats which player coached am I choosing? Same height, stats etc. Which player gets the edge?
