The Official New York Knicks Thread.

You're telling me the league doesn't value it while the league is simultaneously giving out $35 million contracts to undrafted rookies because of their defense. While Boston absolutely refuses to give up Rondo because of his defense. While OKC leaves their lottery pick on the bench so they can start defense, and then makes a trade to acquire interior defense. Keep telling me GMs don't care about it. They're too busy telling each other how Kevin Love is the next Dwight Howard.

Wesley Matthews averages 16 ppg and shoots a decent average (48% and 39% when he signed the contract). I'm pretty sure he didn't get $35 M for his D. You're a waste of my time.

He got 35 mil for 16 ppg?

Curiosity? Have you actually ever just sat down and watched a game of basketball?

There are a lot of NBA players who make more than $7M/year and don't score 16 ppg. Gilbert Arenas is getting paid $17M for 11 ppg.

You're outdoing yourself; you actually made me laugh out loud this time. Do you seriously ever watch the NBA, or just check in on the stats every day? Aside from the fact that everyone that knows anything about Wesley Matthews knows he's primarily a defensive stopper, he also plays the same position as Brandon Roy. You think they were paying a guy scoring in the single digits 35 mil to be a scoring 2-guard...just like their best player? Then you're right, your time is definitely wasted in the NBA forum.

The Wes Matthews deal got done because he's probably our best perimeter defender, and already plays like a vet in his 2nd year. Also, IIRC his salary decreases as time goes on per his contract.

Although he's probably going to continue to split minutes about 60/40 in his favor with BRoy while he recovers from his injury, and needs to take it easy on the knees.

Again, baker, you're off your rocker. Basketball is 99% about mixing styles, teamwork, effort, defense, off the ball play, intangibles, leadership and (Charlie Sheen says: ) WINNING. Stats make up the other 1%.

It's great for fantasy basketball, but if all somebody knows is stats then I'd bet everything I own that they couldn't put a team together for crap.

You guys should really read Stumbling on Wins. You'd be surprised at what you learn, and even if you don't believe a word of it, you'll enjoy it.

Berri, the author, was considered a crazy idiot by people like you (except with credentials) when he said Iverson was the most overrated player. When he went to Denver, Berri predicted the 76ers would win half of their remaining games and that Denver would finish slightly worse. He hit the nail on the head*. Those people continue to call him an idiot as he proves them wrong. Now he says Melo is the most overrated player and that he makes NY better by just a few games. Wait and see.

I know you guys will never agree with my take, but I still can't fathom why anyone would think that somebody who shoots league average is a good scorer. It's beyond stupid.

*Philly was 5-10 (.333) when he left and Denver was 14-10 (.583) when he arrived. They finished 35-47 (.427) and 45-37 (.549) respectively.

Berri never played a sport in his life. He's an idiot pencil pusher. Everyone knew AI was on a serious downhill slide when he went to Denver, without even looking at stats.

BTW, you earlier stated that AI was a star player when Melo played with him. Changing your story?

I've done some reading on Berri since you've been pumping him up. No offense if he's your dad, but he's a moron.

When I said that, I specified that he was a star according to your standards. Iverson was one of my favorite players ever, but I recognize that he wasn't very good. When Denver got Iverson everyone was talking about them being a contender. You've got a funny way of remembering things. Iverson was scoring 31 ppg when he left Philly.

My standards? I thought AI sucked his entire career. He's always been an "And-1" player in a team sport. He's tough, sure, but he should have stuck to football. Common sense man! Start watching the game and quit reading the stats. If your hero Berri had a freakin clue and his stat evaluation was reliable he'd be running a betting site.

Yeah, your standards. You think guys that put up points are good, regardless of their efficiency.

Conventional wisdom in basketball says AI is an HOFer. It's only the stat guys that think he wasn't. At least you agree with us there. Melo is basically an AI that can rebound, so he is better, but still overrated.

It seems Berri's more interested in getting published and teaching than he is in money. He turned down an NHL team for a consulting spot because he liked what he does and didn't want to be commit to their demands.

I think what you're really trying to explain is something you don't need a stat sheet to tell us.

AI and Melo are two of the best one-man wrecking crews to ever play offense in hoops, but their styles aren't conducive to team play and thus winning.

But there's not a lot of people who actually believe that. If the Knicks believed that they wouldn't have traded for Melo. The advanced stats tell you that and they tell you why it's the case.

Read the book. I'm sure you would like it Milo. It talks about a lot of stuff ranging from hockey to NFL. Like how much more likely you are to get drafted in a lottery spot if you make a final 4, how there isn't much difference between the best NHL goalie and the average NHL goalie, etc.

Losing to the Pacers sucks. Oh well, Toney Douglas played like Cam Tatum tonight, 1-12 shooting. Knicks took 12 more shots, made 9 less field goals. Amare was solid though.

I despise Hansbo, that makes me madder than losing. Stupid D'Antoni. Hopefully we'll get a quality HC when Chris Paul signs.

Nice spanking of the Grizzles. Go figure, can't beat the crappy pacers but handle the Grizz. T Douglas was the diff tonight, UNCONSCIOUS from 3.

That sucked! Carmelo and Billups both sucking and still losing by two is not real bad.....nevermind.....its real bad, probably got us the 7 seed.

D'Antoni sucks.

Bobcats are beating up on you. 52-37.

Rarely will I cheer for the Knicks, but I will tonight. You guys need to right the ship and take the Bobcats down.

Knicks can't be contenders with D'Antoni. We've got a playoff roster but a freakin idiot as a head coach. Behind the scenes he's blaming it on Billup's age, that he needs a new pg.
