Marion hasn't been good since.
Amare tanked in the playoffs.
Dirk is good.
Point is... Stockton and Malone both rank in the top 50 all time and the only played in one championship together?
Marion will never be a top 50 player. Dirk and Nash are both borderline but probably won't make it. Dirk won't anyways.
Shouldn't two top 50 players accomplish more than a single championship loss? We're not talking Dan Marino with 20 other bums. We're talking 2 of 5 of starters that are top 50. Russel was pretty good also.
It's just my opinion. Having watched Bagwell and Biggio carry 20 other guys, I'm not overly impressed by Stockton and Malone. They receive more praise than Bagwell and Biggio will ever get.
Bagwell and Biggio? Let's stick with basketball.
Once again,
Malone and Stockton played in 2 finals and went to game 6 twice with one of the best teams ever. Winning a championship is never about 2 players. You need 6-8 players to be somewhat good and then the rest of the roster can be crap. Bryon Russell was not a very good player (below average rebounder and shot 43% for his career). At best he was an OK defender.
Marion was an all-star before Nash got there.
'98 Jazz starting 4 in order of productivity that year:
Karl Malone (27, 10, .530)
Jeff Hornacek (14, 4, .482)
Adam Keefe (8, 5, .540)
Greg Ostertag (5, 6, and .481)
'05 Suns starting 4 in order of productivity:
Amare Stoudemire (26, 9, .559)
Shawn Marion (19, 11, .476)
Joe Johsnon (17, 5, and .461)
Quentin Richardson (15, 6, and .389 but he mostly shot 3's at .358)
So Nash was playing with 3 other All-stars and Stockton was playing with 1 other HOFer. Stockton went to 2 Finals. Nash will never go. Also we haven't even mentioned that Nash has no defensive ability, and
Stockton is the all-time leader in steals.
No sane person would take Nash over Stockton.
