The Official Lakers Thread

I love how nobody mentions LeBron even though he is a career 49% shooter.

We're talking "pure scorer". LeBron is still taking his game to new heights but nobody has the complete offensive package that Durant has and he may just be scratching the surface.

Complete offensive package includes being able to run point and make everybody around you better right?

If we are talking about contested jump shooter it is Durant.

Durant is the best pure scorer in the NBA. What I meant by offensive package was just from a scoring standpoint.

I agree that Durant is a more polished scorer than Lebron, but James is the much better defender. I'm thinking I take James in 1-on-1.

Durant is able to rise over anyone and shoot. He's also an extremely efficient shooter, too. With his size, it's impossible to guard and contest his shot. Lebron is able to just use his superior athleticism and exceptional passing skills to dominate on both ends of the court. Durant is the best scorer, but Lebron is more versatile.

I agree with ya.

Though, Durant does a surprisingly good job of filling the stat sheet. When the hype surrounded him as a freshman, I remember watching him with his pencil legs/arms and thinking this dude is going to have his leg snapped the second legs gets tangled or a he takes a knee to the leg. Don't let lanky fool ya, I thought for sure it would correlate to injuries. But nah, you Kevin Love and out Dwight Howard out there racking up injuries. Durability is a funny thing.

Stephen A. Smith said that he doesn't believe Dwight Howard will re-sign with the Lakers because "he's not happy".

He stands to make $25M more in LA than anywhere else....one question is how much would he save in taxes if he went home to Atlanta?

I really don't think this is on D'Antoni...Phil is obviously a better coach, but I'm not sure anybody would've done better. They're old, and maybe a little unlucky. They've had a lot of close losses. 3-7 in 5 point games, and 6-19 in 10 point games...they're old and banged up, and struggle to close out games.

The weak minded, simpleton coach has plenty to do with it.

Exactly. CMD is not a New York/LA kind of guy. I am still a fan, but I do not believe he is the guy for us. We will have a new coach next year or a drastically different team. And I do not care which. This team is a mess.

Even despite all the injuries, and old age, D'Antoni's offense is fine, which is what seems to be the biggest complaint (his offense doesn't fit the personnel).

They are 8th in the league in offensive efficiency, but 23rd in defensive efficiency. Again, I'm pretty sure this has to do with personnel, age, and injury, and not D'Antoni's system. D'Antoni's Knicks were 5th in defensive efficiency last year.
