The Official Lakers Thread

The pick and roll for Bynum and the pick and pop for Gasol are going to be there all day. This is a great move. And this guy is a two time MVP... And people still don't like the move... Only us lakers fans can complain.

Not really.

Kobe is an isolation player. He doesn't cut to the rim or come of curls and screens. He gets the ball in the mid post or on the wing.

Not sure how having Nash is going to help him. The other player should benefit though.

I think it puts him in a position to take fewer shots, ipso facto he'll end up with better shot selection.

FWIW Nash was the 2nd best PG last year, according to advanced metrics.

If the lakers get another wing defender/slasher like espn was just talking about it could be a good move. Lamar could've been that guy.

They run circles around him, and then miss their shots/FT's. Meanwhile, he's running the other way shooting 53% (40% from 3 pt).

Helps when you only play 30 minutes a game while the others are playing almost the entire game. To argue he is a top 5 PG at this stage in his career is beyond dumb.

Nobody plays "almost the entire game" on average. Westbrook played 35.3 MPG this year. Nash played 31.6. So Westbrook plays 4 more minutes, and that's what's causing him to only shoot 45%?

Nash is a great shooter, and takes great shots. That's why he's shot at least 50% 7 of the last 8 years.

And now lets compare Nash's supporting cast to all of those other PGs he mentioned.

When the Suns get significantly worse, and the Lakers get better, I hope you bring up the "Nash doesn't play D" argument again.

If you said something to the effect of "Nash's great offense makes up for his horrific defense" or "I'd rather take Nash's offense and his horrible defense over most PG's" that's fine, but saying "His D doesn't matter" is quite simply incorrect.

Semantics

Also, while Nash takes care of himself as good as anyone in the league, and his game fits nicely into his age (like Stockton), with his back (and being 39), he can just lose it overnight.

Nash is only 37, but yeah, you have a good point about the back. Players can fade fast in their old age, but he's held up so far.

Nash had 200 more assists than Rondo over the last few years. With MUCH worse players. And with a bad back and being much older. -- Who else has stopped Westbrook or Parker? Exactly. --The Lakers had 4th quarter leads in games 2, 3 and 4. While working way too hard to get shots. Nash will help that. Nash gets great shots for nobody's. Now he has 3 of the top 20 players in the league. Even the dummest of dummies can see that it is an ugrade over Blake Sessions. Quit hatin beesh.

I'm sure Phoenix style of play has nothing to do with the first statistic you mentioned? Unless Mike brown revolutionizes his offense this is an overrated move. This Laker team is not constructed for an up tempo offense. You take a big asset of Nash's away without that component. Less spacing, less shooters, and a guy that demands the ball. Nash has never played in a system with those restraints.
