The Official Indianapolis Colts Thread

Read in a couple of places that Deight Freeney could be released. Don't have a feeling if he will one way or the other, but it would be crazy to see the Colts without Manning and Freeney.

I have heard that also, but I think at the end he is still with the Colts. Pagano has been going on and on about how great Freeney and Mathis are.

Miami with Wayne following and drafting Trent would make ish interesting.

Richardson will be gone by the time they pick, but really they're probably fine at RB between Bush and Thomas.

Miami could be an interesting scenario...(I'm not familiar with their salary cap status at the moment) if they do choose to open it up...say they bring in Manning and Reggie Wayne and then go big again with the defense through say Cortland Finnegan...that could really turn around the outlook/expectations/predictions of that team this upcoming season

(not familiar enough though to figure out which player such scenario would warrant them drafting)

I have a question/comment for the Colts fans...

Despite releasing Peyton, can you see the silver lining(s) in all this?

I mean, the team was going to struggle overcoming their salary cap woes for at least a season or two even with Peyton.

Sure last season was painful, but you get the first overall pick which just so happens will be the best QB prospect since Peyton came out.

In the meantime, Peyton gets to go pick his team of choice to try to win while the Colts rebuild. As long as that team isn't in the same division, it makes it somewhat palatable.

Is it too soon to ask this? Am I just full of it?

What do you guys think?

I'm not really all that sad. It's kinda sad, but like you say tnfalcon, it's probably best for both parties.

It was sad watching the press conf.

But there is a silver lining, Peyton is going to go somewhere where he can compete for a SB. The Colts could not compete if they kept Peyton due to the salary cap.

This team can rebuild around a potentially great QB with a defensive minded HC. Sure the next couple of season will be rough but this had to be done.

This is a win/win. Peyton wins now (probably) and helps the Colts build for later.

who, at this point, are they still trying to get signed before the 13th?

I am going to guess they try Garcon again, they offered him a 5 year deal which he turned down. Maybe Saturday. Other than those guys I am guessing they will not sign anyone before then. Wayne will not be back and we know their history of keeping LBs. I am guessing they cut Brackett and might explore trading Freeney.

after the playoffs though, it might turn out that's only the case if Smith chooses to walk

I think it can go both ways. He can go before or after if PM goes to SF. I am sure he will be able to quickly see the writing on the wall if SF convinces PM to sign.

That being said, a lot of "Ifs" to be settled before anything like this happens. Hopefully PM is healthy, for one.

Just heard Clayton on sports talk in Indy and he said that the Colts will have a lot of cap money open next season. So this season will be rough, next season might be ok.

When I brought this up to my wife the other day I thought she was going to slap me.

The Indianapolis Colts are fielding telephone calls from teams interested in trading for perennial Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney, according to league sources.
