i'm telling you, it'd be much more trouble than it's worth

if anything, you should trade with another team and see what big players plus picks they'll give in return


they're a win now team, when you have the certainty, you should go with it rather than building up the uncertainty




(we're all just giving our opinions though...watch some option come up they take that no one's considered)

I think you have to take Luck. Sort of like an Aaron Rodgers-type situation, though granted it's #1 overall this time. With the new rookie contract scale, though, you'd probably be paying him less than Rodgers was making to sit the bench

remember how pissed though Favre started getting that the rest of his career was only being there until this other kid was ready? I think the same with Brees with Rivers. McNair also even spoke out to media about not liking the idea of just being there until the incumbent was ready (and as a "you do what I tell you" move Bud Adams barred him from the facilities while everyone else was in So Cal scouting Leinart)

it gets messy, often. By taking him you are saying "we're done with you in a few years peyton; if you want to keep playing, you're going to need to find another team with which to do it "


you're also saying you're willing to invest a year not doing much, rather than trying to win with the pieces you have now - and that the latter is not as important

The NFL is a cut throat business. I love Peyton like no one else but he is not bigger than the organization as a whole. If we get that opportunity to pick Luck no way they can pass that up. Plus with Peyton playing there is no way they have another top 5 pick.

Now if they get the number 3 or 4 pick I would like to see them trade back maybe get Justin Blackmon or Alshon Jeffrey and pick up extra picks.

The other players on this team proved they are nothing, they proved everyone right that they are all crap without Peyton. I swear I never thought as great as Peyton is that he could not matter this much that they can't beat the Cleveland freaking Browns. This team will have a top 5 pick guaranteed.

I love how the OC Christensen was moaning that the strike was an issue in finding a back up qb (according to the announcers). Are you f.... kidding me? The Colts haven't paid any attention to developing a half-ass back up QB for the past 12 yrs. You cannot expect anyone to believe that there were no better QB prospects than Curtis Painter (or Jim Sorgi) available during this time.

If this isn't showing that Manning is/was the Most Valuable Player in the league, then I don't know what does. NE loses Brady and goes 12-4. Indy loses Manning and will be lucky to win 4 games.

11-5, but yeah. This is going to cement Manning's legacy. Besides a few changes to the OL, this is basically the team Manning took to the Super Bowl.

So knowing what we know, Colts fans what are your feelings on the draft, say we have the number 1 pick where should we go? I say Luck, no question in my mind.

I think for sure it's still in question. As a Peyton fan who doesn't care what happens to the Colts post-Manning....I don't want Luck. I want somebody who makes us win now.

The Colts are not the worst team in the league. Collins is who he is, but he'll have a couple of good games, there are still enough weapons on the outside to score, and you've still got Freeney and Mathis.

Despite their week one win, I think the Jags might be worse than the Colts, especially if you stop the run.

I'm neutral on the matter, but I think the best option is to do like the chargers did Vick's draft year: trade down with another team to get players or picks, likely that are still high (that's the year the chargers got ladanian Tomlinson)

With the new rookie cap, actually being able to trade down from 1 is much, much more feasible than it's been in years, and there's going to be some bad team without a quarterback who's going to be absolutely crazy for him...and probably willing to give up more than they should


But those are just my thoughts

Have not yet and don't expect to and the offense can't score. Are they the worst team in the league probably not but when you lose to the Browns and the schedule is very tough this team could easily go 3-13.

As a Colts fan pre and post Manning, I'd rather they grab Luck if they are in position to do so. You never know for sure but what I have seen of him, I think he is a Franchise QB. You don't very often get a chance to grab one.

Also, I am not very optimistic that Manning will ever regain his form prior to these surgeries. Yes, he will be servicable and his smarts alone can win a few games but even last year, I think his arm strength was down and it hurt his game.

We need massive changes the next several years to get back to competing with the big boys. No chance that Caldwell is up to that job. At best, he's a caretaker.

Caldwell is a joke. Cower or even Fisher. Would love to draft Luck and get a defensive coach. I trust that if Peyton comes back he is doing so believing he is at full strength. This whole team needs to be re worked.

If I had a high profile team or a team in a high profile city, like Dallas or Washington, I'd trade two whole drafts for a prospect I firmly believed would bring me 15 years of elite play at the QB position. Really, I'd probably go further than that. If PM was in one of those cities, and not Indianapolis, how much money would that team make?

If PM was on a team with a national following like Oakland or Dallas, it would be a windfall for those franchises, IMO. Look at what he's done for the Colts. 13 seasons of stability.

Trading down isn't as cool now with the rookie salary cap. Before that I would have guaranteed the Colts traded down.

im not sure why.


With the numbers before the rookie cap no one would have traded up to get the top pick (or really even top 5 picks), it was way too expensive for someone who hadn't even played an NFL down before. Now that they're lowered, it's actually possible again

More valuable to the teams that hold them, though. Asking price for a high pick should go WAY up. Less risk, more value.
