Not a predictor of the team's success, but Polian was at the Stanford-Duke game. Probably wasn't scouting the Duke QB.Posted via VolNation Mobile

With the new rookie salary rules, it would actually make sense to take Luck #1 and sit him for 2-4 years.

I'm not sure they'd do it. With manning still having - what - 4 to 5 years left, they'd be more likely to spend the pick on someone more likely to help them at the moment/near future than to ride the bench several years until manning finally steps down

Of course, this all assuming the nerve regeneration issue doesn't somehow become career ending

I agree. If Manning's injury puts his future in question (1-2 years rather than 4-5) it could play into it. I would've said for certain they would trade down the pick, but that's pre-rookie salary CBA '11.

Can you imagine if there is a Suh waiting for the Colts in the draft next spring?

IMO, they'd be nuts to pass on Luck if they think he's the second coming of PM. Although we all know Tyler Bray is the second coming, not Luck. :)

Yesterday was a crazy day across the NFL. The Colts were really bad, but I have a hard time believing they'll finish with the worst record.

I don't know. This defense is not designed to be on the field a lot. It's designed to play with a lead. Their ability to rush the passer is incredible, but they're not stopping the run and they don't rush particularly well when teams run on them. They're going to be on the field a lot, and I'm thinking the results will mostly be bad.

Good point. I am thinking 3-13 at this point. If Luck is as good as they think, they would be nuts not to draft him with the #1 pick. Even if Manning comes back, I think he will have lost some arm strength and at his age, that would be very bad.

Although I'm not happy to tank a season, I'd prefer going into the toilet all at once as opposed to watching things degrade slowly over time like what we experienced for the last 5 yrs with Fulmer.

Yeah, I think you have to draft Luck if you are Colts, even if Manning could play another 3-4 years, he is coming down the backside now.

Ernie Sims and Gary Brackett out Sunday against the Browns. This team has more injuries year after year than anyone I have ever seen. We just can't catch a break.

I think you will see more players declared OUT this year as the year progresses. Why play hurt when you know the best possible record is 6-10 and the head coach is a puppet?

Our guys always miss, every year not just this one. I don't get it. I guarantee our guys miss more time than any other team in the league, especially main players. They get hurt so easily. One injury has probably cost us another championship. The head coach is a moron among other things.

Part of the problem is size. Colts (Polian) have always thought fast on offense and defense was the way to go. So, the players, especially at skill positions, tend to be lighter. Lighter players being hit harder by larger players get injured more.

I agree that Freeney's injury may have cost the Colts the Super Bowl. Another head coach screw up since there was no reason he had to be in the game at that point.

Yea I agree but Brackett is not really a smaller LB. Our receivers are normal size. Our backs are normal size. I really do agree with you on our secondary guys.

Dumb decision because that Jets game was a 2 score game. Why leave Freeney out there? The game is over. Gosh I can't stand Caldwell.

Brackett is getting up there in age - 9th year in the league. I would expect him and Freeney to get more dinged up now. Noticed that Freeney and Wayne were excused from practice today to rest.

Its hard but I'm trying to look at this season from a positive viewpoint. 1) will likely get a very high draft pick and maybe even #1. 2) will expose the coaching incompetence and will see a complete changeover in coaching staff. 3) will force Polian into a rebuilding mode of thinking at which he is pretty good at and 2) and 3) will usher in a strong new coaching staff. Who would you want as a new head coach? My pick would be Cower.

We beat the Saints with Freeney and Sanders.

My thinking is that overall this team has too much talent to lose enough games to have a pick in the top 5. My guess is Peyton misses the whole year but at some point the offense clicks. Your 6-10 may be pretty close to where they end up. I would love to see a new coaching staff, Cower or Gruden would be my first 2 choices heck I would take Fisher over Caldwell. Main thing is we need a new defensive strategy, this play your CBs 7 yds off the line and bale at the snap is garbage. I hate this style of D. Caldwell does need to go, he is a fraud as a coach.

Worse than I thought for sure, I will take my medicine here. This team has not chance to win more than 4 games. Time to fire Caldwell and hopefully get the first pick and draft Luck. Hopefully Peyton can come back next season and play and also mentor the young QB for a couple of years. Worst football weekend for me in a long time. Vols lose, Colts lose, Titans win and either the Pats or Chargers one has to win, can it get any worse?

Sucks for sure. Make sure the liquor cabinet is well stocked on Sundays this year.

Happens. Even without Luck Landry Jones is good consolation, part of me wishes the Titans had him instead of Locker

their best bet is to trade the pick or pick someone on defense (or offense) to help. Manning has 4-5 more years in him if he recovers

When you have someone like manning, you want to give him all you can get him to work with for as long as you can get him to work with, especially if you have 3 more good years with him left in the tank

If you take luck first overall you pretty much tell him, you're looking towards the future and really throwing aside his last few years because you'd much rather look at Luck's future down the line than Manning's career at the moment (plus taking a QB 1 overall.....pretty much is also promising the kid he's the franchise's future star, and as such you will play him in the next year or two)

He does have several years left if he can fully come back from this injury. But either way if you have a chance to get another franchise QB (though you really never know about players coming out of college) you have to take him because if Peyton does come back and is fully healthy they will not have a high enough pick to get another franchise QB that high of a pick anyway.
