The Official Indianapolis Colts Thread

Blow it up and start over. And PLEASE get a new front office and a new coaching staff. Current group is in WAY over their heads.

I am ready to start getting rid of these older players, especially the ones that can't stay healthy. Caldwell should be and will be fired.

I think it is about a 50:50 chance that Manning has played his last game as a Colt. It will be a sad day when they either trade or release him. Its not often that you can trace an entire franchise/city's resurgence to one person but the Colts/Indianapolis fit that bill. Without Manning, Indianapolis no longer has the Colts (long gone to L.A.), no new stadium, no new convention center, and is about as relevant as Fort Wayne.

I'm trying to decide if another possible decade of dominance in the AFC South for the Colts is worth getting to see them flop around winless for an entire season.

I will gladly take 1 winless season in order for another 10 years or so of dominance no question about it. At this point I would hate to win 3 games or so and screw up getting Luck. We aren't going to the playoffs so I would rather go 0-16 than 5-11 or so.

What if Manning can give you 1 more title and Luck has a Marino-like career. What would you prefer?

Here is my hope. I don't think Irsay gets rid of the Polians so with that being said I hope the Polians realize you can't only have 1 player on the team and you can have a great QB but you need to have good players around him and a great coaching staff. So they fire Caldwell and draft Luck but also spend the money to put great players around him so we don't have a repeat of this crap.

No one knows for sure either way, but odds are seeing that Luck probably has 12 years of football ahead of him and Peyton might not have any, I like my chances of winning more with Luck.

You know part of the reason for all that success was who was the HC also.

I don't think luck's going to (necessarily) have the exact same kind of career unless they find another really good HC to mesh with Luck in the same manner as Manning and Dungy did

But those are just my thoughts

That's true. I don't think Dungy is a HoF coach, but he was definitely a good coach. I mean, he obviously overcame having Caldwell on staff to win a Super Bowl.

:eek:lol:

kidding. It amazes me that Colts fans automatically write off Caldwell as a garbage head coach. I guess they forgot about 14-2 last year. I still don't think he's very good, but I don't think there's many coaches that could win more than a game or two with this roster.

+1. Caldwell is a caretaker. He can keep things even-keel when things were going well. But he doesn't have a clue on how to change things up when things aren't going well. He should have known 2 yrs ago that Painter isn't an adequate back-up and started preparing someone better for that role.

I think Manning's chemistry was more with Tom Moore than with Tony Dungy. Colts will have to find someone like Moore for Luck.

I think there's something to be said for Marino having some level of culpability in his never winning a title. Luck doesn't strike me as that type of guy, he would hand the ball off 40 times if that meant winning the game.

There has to be to some extent. I missed most of his prim, so I'm interested in his team's defensive numbers. How they ranked in points and yards (respectively) surrendered, starting his rookie year:

1st and 7th
7th and 19th
12th and 23rd
26th and 26th
16th and 26th
24th and 26th
22nd and 24th
4th and 7th (went 12-4, lost 44-34 in playoffs)
24th and 25th
11th and 10th (went 11-5, lost 29-10 in playoffs)
24th and 20th
17th and 19th
10th and 16th (9-5 with Marino/he threw 3 picks in playoff loss)
17th and 17th
16th and 26th
1st and 3d (by this time he was well past his prime)
19th and 5th

That's some pretty bad D, most seasons.

First of all, last year was was 10-6 not 14-2. But Caldwell is a garbage coach. This team has talent, maybe not playoff talent but more talent than 0-10.

I have no idea why I remembered 14-2 was last year. Didn't Peyton get off to an awful start last year and turn it around. I have a poor memory.

You're probably thinking of 2008. Last year Manning's stats were off the charts to start the season, but by week 6 the roster had been devastated with injuries. Manning threw 17 picks (partly because he set the record for pass completions) with 15 of them coming in the last 9 games. He had no chance with that team, and they won the freaking division.

If they don't draft Luck, they're nuts.

And I still don't know if Luck falls into the "too good to fail" category. Only two, maybe three, quarterbacks have in the past 15 years.

I want to hope Luck falls flat on his face and fails in the league.... but he's just too good a guy. Just like I hope you Indianapolis Peyton fans don't actively root for Locker to fail, he's just such a great kid.

Read an article on NFL.com about possible places Peyton could land. The author of the article said that Peyton has played his last game as a Colt, he said it's officially over with the Colts. I brought this team up to my wife last week, he said the Jets could trade for Peyton. That would be a great fit, he would know what it's like for Brady when he won his Super Bowls. Great fit and I am willing to bet they would give up many picks for Peyton.

Still hate the Jets, though. I would rather him go NFC and not to a douchebag team like the Jets, Ravens, Steelers (not that they would), etc.

Not that it mattered, but another blown called by Jim Caldwell. I believe you never go for 2 until you absolutely have to. With about 8 minutes left they scored and they went for 2 and did not get it, now they are down 5 and the Panthers kick a fg so now you are down 8. They were on the goal line with a chance to score, they did not but if they had they would have had to go for 2 again. I am not sure who is worse, Caldwell or Dooley.
