I think people are really discounting Mullen's success at State, NO ONE has won at State. Hes getting those results at Mississippi State not some MAC, ACC or Big East school. And he's doing all of this with very limited resources, his recruiting budget is only 400K a year to put that in perspective Tennessee's was 1.3 million last year.

Some of you goofballs on here make me sick. You honestly think we are gonna get a coach that has won a national title. Hahahaha......keep dreaming. You honestly think we are gonna get a coach that can beat Nick Saban. Hahahaha.....keep dreaming. Many have tried and failed so some of you people's opinions about Dan mullen not being able to beat Nick Saban/Alabama one time let alone twice in the same year is irrelevant. No one can beat Alabama twice in the same year with any coach in the league right now. So stop the stupid comments. We need a great hire that can bring in an even better core coaching group around him if we want to have a chance to compete. That hire will either be Mullen or Patterson. That's about it my friends.

Nick Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe at Alabama.

Point being: don't build an entire case against someone based on one game.

PS. I'm not a Mullenite. Just making a point.

Do you not understand where he is coaching? I swear TN fans are spoiled.

Schools like Miss. St, TCU, Louisville, etc, these are not powerhouse football schools. They could have Saban or Meyer as HC and they will still go through constant rebuilding periods. The talent base, facilities, and tradition just aren't there to sell recruits as easily as other schools. Gary Patterson is one of the best coaches in the nation, and even he has rebuilding periods.

I think you are conflating "rebuilding."
UTs program when Dooley left had to be completely rebuilt. Everything, from the academic support to the locker room. Losing players is going to happen in college to EVERY program. So, every team is doing that. If you are equating that to those you mention, you are smoking crack.

Jackie Sherrill won bigger at Mississippi state

Played in SEC championship game under him.

And then when the losses to Bama and Auburn happen in 2018 - the legion of the miserables will rise again - with many saying "I told you that was a bad hire".

Or maybe it will be when he new coach gets on campus and says "we're young" and it is going to take "years" to get back to the top.

This fan base has no patience whatsoever - so it really doesn't matter who if we are all being honest with ourselves.

Tuberville left Ole Miss after several seasons for Auburn and eventually had a 13-0 unbeaten season in 2004.

His seasons at Ole Miss before going to Auburn were underwhelming 6-5, 5-6, 8-4, 6-5.

Could Mullen's move from Miss State to Tennessee produce similar results?

He could do better than Butch.... that's about it for Mullen.

He looses games vs teams Mississippi st pays to come play them too.

Not what Tennessee needs.

Florida where he helped win 2 NC at don't want him.

Why does Tennessee?

Dan Mullen has so many of the same issues that Butch Jones has.

People don't want to coach for him.

Coaches games scared
Blows leads in games.....

They dont want to coach at MSU... He would bring a good DC to UT.

True, but that was back when 2 and 3 loss teams were coming out of the West. Sherrill was a .500 coach and Mullen is on the verge of catching him in a lot fewer games.

In the coordinator issue, that was primarily money issues. The same issues Mullen has had with msu for not being able to provide the resources needed to attract and retain assistant coaches.

Just stop. The SEC West was rather weak at the time Sherrill won the West, and oh yeah, he also got MSU sanctioned by the NCAA,so we know how he was recruiting talent to Starkville.
