The Official Dan Mullen Thread

Mullenites,

I would just like to point out that Mullen lost to a South Alabama coach last year that just got fired. You guys carry on.

Anyone that can get Cow Pasture U to number one in the Nation I am ok with, before he got there the only good that had ever had was the Sherrrill days, he is dang near their most winning coach in program history if he is willing to leave you take him plain and simple.

Good comparison. Nick Saban lost to Croom his first year at Bama. Mullen lost to Jones in year 8.

In a complete total rebuild year after losing tons of starters.

They also lost 3 times last year on the last play. Regardless of opponent they were an inept team. MSU’s offense last year was worst than ours this year Under butch.

Honest question, do you not see a significant difference between last year’s MSU squad and this year’s?

I think at least Mullen does emphasize strong O and D lines and SEC football. I remember him snagging a couple highly recruited JUCO DT's from under us a few yrs back.

Sorry I don't want a coach that has to "rebuild" in year 9. That sounds ridiculous. It'd be like people wanting to keep Butch Jones and calling his year 5 a rebuild year. Yeah, no thanks.

Whoever gets hired I sincerely hope the next time we go through a coaching search that Gruden is too old to be brought up again, that guy plays, loves the attention and nothing more. If he were to come I would gladly eat crow however I think its the same old song and dance. And the ones lashing out in this thread are the ones who fully jumped on the Gruden train and they're just not going to be satisfied with anyone else. However winning cures all, time will tell.

One of my closest friends is a MSU alum and donor (not a major booster) but I was asking him about Mullen's ability to recruit. Obviously, Starkville is no happening city, but neither is Tuscaloosa, Auburn, or Oxford, and those schools have had much better success recruiting. I'm not saying he should consistently be pulling Top 10 classes to MSU, but he's NEVER had a top 15 class and only once has had a class better than #25. Most of his classes have ranked in the 30's.

He said Mullen doesn't have a reputation of being a great recruiter. It's not his strong suit. That said, he does seem better at developing talent. Do you think he would recruit better here, or that he would HAVE to surround himself with elite assistants with strength in that area?

And my next door neighbor is an MSU grad and he is very upset that Mullen might leave. Granted Tuscaloosa and Auburn aren't much different than Starkville, but Bama and Auburn are traditional SEC powerhouses and have that as a selling point for recruits. Ole Mid isn't an SEC powerhouse, but Oxford is a way cooler college town than any of those 3, and it also helps recruiting when your coaching staff is handing out money and hookers.

So Urban didn’t have to rebuild in 2010? Auburn didn’t have to rebuild after their natty? What about A&M after Manziel left?

You literally must watch zero football if you think not one coach has to go thru a rebuilding year.

I guess you thought a 9-3 season was our Floor this year right?
