Same was said of franklin. Miss state is harder to recruit and faces tougher competition than Vandy. Every time Mississippi state faces an sec opponent they're playing superior talent.
Rutgers had averaged 3 wins per season for decades before Schiano got there. He got them to 6 bowls in 10 years won 5 of them....
That's not impressive?
It is. But not anymore than the results that Mullen has achieved in a league where there has been a team from his division play in the championship game in six of his 8 years. 7 of 8 if you count the year Bama played LSU.
At RUTGERS!
Most of his losses came from building them up from their annual 2 win per season teams

Which college football head coaches are best & worst vs. Top 25 teams?
Tennessee really needs to go after Patterson. Or throw 10 mil Shaw's way and see what happens.
Still like to see
Chip, Frost, or Dantoino as well.
Yea but don't forget
1. Mississippi is a state that's LOADED with talent
2. Good players want to play in the SEC and easier to recruit to a SEC school
3. Schiano talked players into going to New Jersey!!!
So much more impressive what Schanio did

New Jersey has probably produced as much talent as the state of MS over the last 10-12 years . Penn State has recruited a number of 4 stars. 2 years ago they had the number 1 overall player and number 1 DT QB (Gary and Guarantano).
it's at least as impressive as a guy that took the 2nd worst program in SEC history, a barely above .500 program over it's history, a .300 program in conference, that went 11 years in between finishing a seaason ranked, in any poll, to 7 straight bowls, won 5, 3 top 25 finishes and improved the recruiting rank average 15 spots nationally.
oh, and has 2 natty's, 1 #1 overall pick QB, 1 ROY NFL QB, and 1 heisman winning qb as a coach/oc.
if you're going to use context for GS, and not DM, then i'd say you're probably related to GS.
mississippi produces tons of talent.
Poor region that recruits star based get overlooked

I am sick of seeing people be so negative on these threads. Why is it so hard for anyone to believe that getting Gruden is a pipe dream? He was and would still be a great coach. I have two children that have grown up not knowing what it is like to support a winning Tennessee team, so they show very little interest in watching the games. I want them to know how it felt when we won the NC! I have full faith in the people involved making sure that they bring in a top tier coach that we all can support. This is a new era for the Vols and I believe that this is finally the turning point that we have been wishing for. I am a 100% Gruden believer, but even if it isn't him I don't see it being a "google my name coach." We are UT! We are relevant and I truly believe that we are a job that many top tier coaches want! We need to quit feeling sorry for ourselves because we will soon be the team we were in the 80's and 90's! Believe in the process and believe in our VOLS! Gruden to the Hill!!! Go VOLS!
