i think gruden is a lot different than those guys. those guys came right out of the NFL head coaching factory, set to the default setting.
i think Gruden has a personality that could fit college, and h e's a much better teacher and strategist than some of the names mentioned.
the think i would worry about with him is could he dial some of "himself" back, and would he want to deal with the grind of constantly having to teach vs. getting to the strategic part of the game....
past that...yeah, i think it'd be great to have him.
I don't disagree. Gruden's personality would be a better fit for college than a lot of the NFL guys I mentioned. If we did hire Gruden, I'd be excited about it. But I don't consider him a "home run hire." I'd put him below Fuente, Frost, Mullen, and even Venables. I'd take him above Chip Kelly, Tee Martin, and Mike Norvell.
But if you ask me who's more likely to succeed here between Gruden and Mike Norvell, I'd say it's a wash. Gruden has much better name recognition and could outrecruit Norvell. He has connections to build a top-notch staff. But Norvell has a college offense that works whereas I don't know if Gruden could create that or not. A guy like Tee Martin could also very well be more successful here than Gruden. This isn't like Bama hiring Nick Saban in 2006; Gruden is a risky hire.
