The Official Dan Mullen Thread

i think gruden is a lot different than those guys. those guys came right out of the NFL head coaching factory, set to the default setting.

i think Gruden has a personality that could fit college, and h e's a much better teacher and strategist than some of the names mentioned.

the think i would worry about with him is could he dial some of "himself" back, and would he want to deal with the grind of constantly having to teach vs. getting to the strategic part of the game....

past that...yeah, i think it'd be great to have him.

I don't disagree. Gruden's personality would be a better fit for college than a lot of the NFL guys I mentioned. If we did hire Gruden, I'd be excited about it. But I don't consider him a "home run hire." I'd put him below Fuente, Frost, Mullen, and even Venables. I'd take him above Chip Kelly, Tee Martin, and Mike Norvell.

But if you ask me who's more likely to succeed here between Gruden and Mike Norvell, I'd say it's a wash. Gruden has much better name recognition and could outrecruit Norvell. He has connections to build a top-notch staff. But Norvell has a college offense that works whereas I don't know if Gruden could create that or not. A guy like Tee Martin could also very well be more successful here than Gruden. This isn't like Bama hiring Nick Saban in 2006; Gruden is a risky hire.

Mullen told his team in the locker room that they would have to do all their offseason workouts because he will be there next year. Fwiw we all know coaches say it is raining then say no ieant it was t raining.

Dan Mullen has never beaten Alabama since he has been at Mississippi State. For Tennessee to get in playoff picture, we will probably have to face Alabama twice (regular season and SEC championship game). We need a coach who can at least beat Alabama once and maybe twice. Mullen is Jim McElwain 2.0.

Florida football has had 4 coaching searches since Mullen has been at Mississippi State and they STILL do not want him back.

1 Gruden
2 Frost
3 Patterson

Who has beaten Saban? Dabo? Ain’t comin. Freeze? Yeah no.

No it's based on actually how recruiting rankings work.

It's based on talent, religion you play in, the number of camps you go to, are you played in your right position in high school, if your not how do you based on a guess what your college position how would you in a few people's mind do at your college position. Do you have exposure to get noticed, how big is your high school
Places like Mississippi poor and rual players get overlooked a ton too

LOL! Yesterday you were touting the state of MS as a "hotbed" of recruiting, now you have changed your argument to MSU gets players other than D1 talent in MS who are actually undiscovered D1 talent because they are from poor, rural areas, although there is nothing tangible to even support that argument.

Except he turned them down twice for interviews. Also, he and his wife hated their time in Gainesville. Was still one of the best OC’s in the country.

I think that Mullen would require too much money to get for what we would get.

I don't believe that he would consistently beat Florida.

I don't believe that he would consistently beat Georgia.

I have no reason to believe that he would EVER beat Alabama.

I believe that we would rarely finish 1st (if ever) in the SEC East under Mullen. I think that we would typically finish 3rd. He simply doesn't know how to win big games.

Alright I can work with that.

That's a whole lot better reasoning than most have brought to the table.

It was already reported that he doesn't want to do much recruiting and that's why he wanted Tee on staff
