The Official Dan Mullen Thread

Look at what James Franklin did at vandy, he is at the vandy of the west and has done the same or better.

Too many are missing this point. Tennessee in the West under Butch would have been no better than 6-6 or 7-5 in ANY year he was here depending on the teams from the East on the schedule.

One of my closest friends is a MSU alum and donor (not a major booster) but I was asking him about Mullen's ability to recruit. Obviously, Starkville is no happening city, but neither is Tuscaloosa, Auburn, or Oxford, and those schools have had much better success recruiting. I'm not saying he should consistently be pulling Top 10 classes to MSU, but he's NEVER had a top 15 class and only once has had a class better than #25. Most of his classes have ranked in the 30's.

He said Mullen doesn't have a reputation of being a great recruiter. It's not his strong suit. That said, he does seem better at developing talent. Do you think he would recruit better here, or that he would HAVE to surround himself with elite assistants with strength in that area?

Apparently 8-9 wins is good enough to satisfy a lot of our fans.

Ridiculous.

He’d compete for the SEC at UT. If UF hires Kelly that does suck because Kelly is the better hire. But if UCLA snatches Kelly away, I’m not sure UF could do much better. Hopefully Nebraska locks Frost up.

Mullen is telling everyone we miss being average let's just get back to that.

69-45 overall is .605 winning percentage.

33-38 in the SEC is .464 winning percentage.

Overall, he's average. In the SEC, he's below average.

Do not want. Currie's an idiot if this is who he marches out.

He’s recruiting tons better than the all time average for State. State fans will dumb it down to make him not look good because they desperately want him to stay. They did it with the Miami interviews as well.

UT recruits itself. If Dooley and Jones can average too 15 over there years here, Mullen can and probably can do much better. Also. He can surround himself with good recruiters if need be. Plus. I’m not sure any coach could consistently pull top 25 classes to MSU, let alone top 15.

Let's hire the guy that looked at Tim Tebow's throwing motion and said "Looks good to me".

You talking about the guy that brought 2MNCs to UF and Heisman to Tebow? Probably one of the top 2 or 3 qbs in college history. And you are knocking him for that?

The guy who was the was the qb coach for Alex Smith?

The guy who has more 9 win seasons and bowl games under his belt at MSU than everyone else in their history.

agreed, but these are the same retards who buy into the whole "we can't afford a good coach" or think UT is just not that good of a job.

What coach out there besides Kelly and Gruden are a batter choice than Mullen? Patterson I can see, but he has a grudge against us and he’s built TCU. I don’t think he leaves. Peterson, yes but same deal. He’s not leaving Washington. So those 4 down, Mullen is the best choice imo.

If Mullen were to leave Mississippi State after the Egg Bowl, then how would their fans feel about that?

Most of their fans would be sorry to see him go. He’s built that program in a responsible way and has it going in a consistent fashion.

He’s a pain in the ass to deal with. But considering what UTAD has put us through this last decade, I wouldn’t mind seeing them suffer a coach who puts winning above boot licking.

Not a home run hire. But a proven hire who would easily be the best coach in our division.

Yeah. He made Dak Prescott look like a 4th round pick.

Butch Jones made Dobbs look like a 4th round pick.

Great work.

I would rather have Frost. At least you can tell people you think Frost is capable of winning big. Mullen is telling everyone we miss being average let's just get back to that.
Not every college QB is going to be sure pros, he’s done a great job developing a college QB..

Sheesh some of you guys lack context. It's freaking Mississippi State!! It is the single worst job in the SEC and the dude has made it a respectable program. Dude could do great things with UT's resources!

Vandy, Kentucky, Missouri, all harder to win at Mississippi state is 4th at worst.....

Stoops at Kentucky is doing more impressive things than Mullen

I'm far from a Mullen homer but the people who refuse to see the difference between coaching in the SEC East with UT's resources and in the SEC West with Miss State's resources are just being silly.

Nope. It's state. Nashville >>>>>> Lexington >>> Columbia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Starkville

Anyone who plays second fiddle in their own state to a program like Ole Miss is at the mercy of the football Gods.

Georgia & Florida passed on Mullen as HC and they have easier recruiting, better tradition of winning in the recruits lifetime.......

And they were a hard pass on Mullen......

Auburn says hello......

Second fiddle to Saban and Alabama and they will beat Alabama this Saturday

Mullen would never have gone to work for Foley. It wasn't a pass by UF. As far as UGA, Smart has been the heir apparent forever. There was no consideration of other candidates.
