The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

You clean after every range trip? I'm old enough to have been taught that but it seems like a lot of 'experts' on youtube are preaching that it's not necessary. I've even seen one guy's videos who claims he has rifles that he's put 50k + rounds through and never cleaned the bore once.

Not to butt in, but if my life depends on the weapon working properly, I'll be cleaning after every session. Given the way this country is going I'll keep my weapons spotless and in perfect working order.

This.

Like the "Mr. Inbetween" avatar. Friend of mine turned me on to it. Waiting on Season 3.

Spotless and perfect working order don't necessarily go together in this regard.

Finally got to shoot again. As posted above, I zero'd the BUS on AR #2, then mounted and zero'd the Vortex 3X Spitfire. Finally, shot my 2nd upper on the 6933. Zero'd it just on the BUS. I really can't tell a difference in felt recoil / muzzle rise between the standard A2 flash hider and the KVS linear comp. Didn't shoot any IMI 55 out of that 2nd upper, so also no idea what the A2 will produce as far as muzzle flash, but it sure was impressive with the KVS. TAP 75 SBR has been very impressive all-round out of the 11.5" barrels.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how well both my 16" 1/9's and the 11.5" 1/7's both really like the 69 SMK/TMK. Shooting a single ragged hole at 50 yards off a folding table is easy with that round. Moving forward, I might make that my "zero round", so that I know what each barrel is capable of. The POI between that and the default duty / HD round (62 TBBC) won't be enough to cause any concern inside of 100 yards, so...

Ammo. Almost impossible to find good ammo, unless you are willing to pay, and pay big. BFGC still has the 62 TBBC, but it was at $1.35/round last time I checked. In the past, I could find it at 0.75 - 0.80/round, and now I'm glad I loaded up on it when I did. What with me only being a "two caliber" shooter (not counting my duty handgun and Upper Management's .38), I had the advantage of being able to focus on only those two calibers and buy good ammo, and lots of it. So now I'm in good shape with regards to ammo on hand. Let me pause here to once again say "thanks" to GV, YV, DTH, OS, ND40, and anyone else I overlooked who got me busy building up my armory, and my ammo stash. literally just in time. I sleep a lot better thanks to y'all.

Keep safe out there. The worst is yet to come.

Now if we could get you into reloading your own ammo.

Now if we could get you into reloading your own ammo.

Back in the late '80's, I reloaded .45 ACP. Started out with an RCBS "rock chucker", and then ended up with a Lee progressive. Back then, we were living in Mt. Pleasant, SC (I was on a sub in Charleston), and I belonged to a gun club...name escapes me now...over there. Indoor range, gun store, reloading supplies, etc. Those guys were super-nice to me, and they got me started in reloading. So I know a little bit about it.

Back then, there was no point to reloading .223 / 5.56, as it cost more to reload than it did to just buy it. Now? Not so much. I haven't done the numbers, but I figure by the time I buy a solid bench; progressive press; dies; powder; primers; quality bullets; reloading trays; tools; and all the other little things you have to have in order to reload properly, well...that's probably a sizable investment. Depending on which life insurance company you talk to, either I (a) should have died 10 years ago, (b) don't have much time left, or (c) should at least make sure I have a will in effect. So I figure by the time I make the investment; get dialed in on the numbers; and then start turning out solid loads, well...you get it.

Personally, I'm holding out hope, faint though it be, that YV will bequeath just one wing of the "YV Arsenal" to me in order to fund my future acquisitions. But until then...

NEVER. GONNA. HAPPEN.

Nothing but love for ya though

TBH, the only ones I'd consider worth a decent amount are the Novekse, the Dan Wesson, and the Vector. Everything else is pretty much run of the mill. Ok, maybe the Sig Legion as well.

Had to try.....

And "everything" is worth a decent amount these days. Using Gunbroker as a reference, if you can find a 6721, you'll pay 1.3 to 1.5 times what I did for both of mine. 6933? Twice as much. Ammo? We already covered that.

Now is a good time to be a responsible, and well-stocked, gun owner.....and an expensive lesson in preparedness for those who are late arriving at the conclusion that self-defense requires an effective means by which to do so. As I have (jokingly) said to the occasional oxygen thief over the years, "Sometimes your purpose in life is to serve as a cautionary warning to others." Nothing personal, just the truth.

I picked up one of the nighthawk drop in trigger systems a while back. It takes a bit of fitting on the thumb safety to work properly. You should also change the mainspring housing spring to your preferred weight as well. I went with a 19lb Wolff spring. It breaks at a consistent and crisp 4lbs. After putting a bunch of rounds through the ole girl, I’m very happy with it. It’s a great alternative to changing original parts from an old colt like this one made in 1966. I went with a Harrison retro safety for the thumb safety as well as not to modify the original part. It’s became one of my favorite 1911’s.

I'll add a Colt eventually. Kinda thinking the Delta Elite

Get an old one. Colt is questionable these days.

Edit: pistols @GreyWolf1129 not rifles.

Yeah, I was sniffing around on a Colt Defender, and a good friend who knows his guns told me "Keep the RIA compact; it's a better gun than the Defender."

To each his own. WRT Colt rifles, it's your money; buy what you trust with your life. I'll be the first to say that if you want a good fighting rifle, that Colt trigger has to go right out of the gate. I went with the Geissele SSA and e-SSA, and I'm happy. I changed the stocks, grips, added optics, slings, and lights and Raptor ambi CH's on my two "fighting rifles". That's just me. I tried to not put anything on my rifles that will get hung up when I'm trying to deploy it in a hurry, and I tried to not put anything on them that I would not need in a vulgar gunfight. Again, that's just me. You wanna go all "Buck Rogers", have fun with it.

I went with Colt initially (2009) because at the time it was the industry standard, a safe buy, and I wanted a heavy barrel. Also, a number of my friends / co-workers went to Colt Armorer's School while they were in the military / LE, and so I have pool of talent if I need something fixed. To a man, they all swear by the 6721 (for accuracy), 6920 (all around), and 6933/6943 (LE and CQB) models. There are other guns they like a lot, some more then Colt depending on the application, but for the money and general reliability...Colt.

'course, the baddest, fastest, coolest, most accurate AR in the world ain't worth squat if the nut on the trigger isn't tight, right? So I try to make sure I practice enough to stay close to the magic 1.5 seconds on the OODA Loop, and make those first 2 rounds count, both with my rifles and my handguns. It's a perishable and...for me...challenging skill. Some days I might impress you, and some days you might spit beer on yourself. Yesterday, and a couple of weeks ago, I was okay. Back in June you would have sworn it was my first time swinging a rifle under pressure. It took me 9 rounds from the "go" to drop 3 steel targets...at 25 yards. My "friend" running the clock asked me if I wanted to buy a shotgun.

Ugh...

AKV. Settled on a rear sling attachment point after trying a couple of options and stuck a red dot on top. everything else is out of the box. I got the ALG enhanced trigger, which is plenty fast. Maybe, I'll put a light on this for giggles but it's really just a range toy so I'm not sure what the point would be. I zeroed the iron site a couple of weeks ago. Next time, I'll get the dot zeroed.
