The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

If you're looking for a great shooting gun for the price, somthing you can put in a glove box and not worry about, but has fantastic reliability check out the SCCY firearms. I have their 9mm, comes with a lifetime warranty and, if it is stolen from your vehicle and you file a police report they will replace the gun FREE of charge.

Recommendations on a reasonable 22 pistol for target practice and to eventually teach my kids to shoot?

smith and Wesson, model 17...
it's a revolver,

I think from an ease of use, instruction and safety , it's easier to start with a revolver.

good luck, and enjoy

Yes, I looked at one of those last night, as well. Good looking gun, some won't care for the grip (a little "stubby").

I don't know how old your kids are, but the Sig 1911 .22 model has been darn near perfect for me.

Just have to remember it has 1911 sized grips lol

Anyone shot a Ruger 22/45 lite?

Got one, love it,put about 2500 rounds through it in the past few years, great training pistol, I keep it in a shoulder holster going canoeing and kayaking for snake eradication, I had a red dot on it but took it off and stayed with tru goo hi vis sights

22plinkster has a tricked out one that I could only dream about

I am ISO a ar pistol complete upper, 5.56/.223 , 10.5" barrel, I figured I could a decent one second hand for less money, but I've been looking at some really nice setups from ground zero precision and hardened arms.

Lemme know if anyone has one they're willing to part with, I have paypal and Google wallet!

What are you looking to spend?

Do you plan to start the kids out on pistols or start with rifles first and go to pistol? I would start with a 22 rifle just to get the basics down, let them understand recoil, sight picture, etc. I have an H&R 949 22 revolver that is fun to shoot. $200 so not bad, I would also recommend the P22 as a good semi plinker. I just know when I go to the range and someone has brought a complete noob and hands them a semi pistol I slowly slink behind my car. When you know zero about guns I do not think a pistol caliber handgun is the place to start.

No offense but I think my chihuahua could handle shooting a .22lr pistol. The kids should be fine.

They have shot air rifles and my dad has an awesome older 22 pump action rifle that I'll start with.

Is it going to blow them down, no. But when you watch a grown man drop a pistol on his first shot out of fear it can make you a bit antsy about beginner pistol. Could terrify the kid and they instinctively drop the gun, which of course could lead to other things. Personally I think it's better to start with a rifle and learn the basics about shooting, hear the gun, feel the recoil, etc. Of course you are free to do whatever you want.
