OK, that still doesn't change the rule book. Sewell took over with less than half the game and a 3 run lead.From utsports.com:
“Tidwell was credited with the win despite not pitching five complete innings since he was on a pitch count, and it was deemed a controlled start prior to the game starting.”
A starter that throws 4.2 in the MLB and exits the game with the lead and that team never gives it up that pitcher gets the win regardless. At the same time MLB rules and NCAA rules are different, I don't think the NCAA allows the Shohei rule where a pitcher can exit and still be a hitter like this year.I too was wondering how that worked. So what if he's on a pitch count? How do you get the rule changed? Who has the power to do that? I don't think there's any way to do this in MLB
