I don't live in Memphis but both my parents are from the Memphis area--dad actually graduated from Overton High School--but Memphis is arguably more diverse than Atlanta when it comes to it's college allegiances.

Ole Miss, UM, UT, Arkansas, with a sprinkling of Miss State and Arkansas State fans in there...

Vanderbilt has more fans in Nashville proper than a lot of UT fans think. However, get even a little bit out of Nashville into the surrounding towns and its right back to Tennessee.

UT fans outnumber VU fans even within their own hospital. :)

Sure, it's fair to say that they have a decent share of fans within the metro area but we're still only talking about a 20 mile radius of their campus.

Most of the Vandy fans in Nashville are either Vandy employees, current students, or "townies" who are from the city and either didn't go to college or went to one without a football team.

The alumni in Nashville are mostly non-existent and if they do stick around, they tend to not care about football (or any sports for that matter).

Not sure I agree with that, unless some Tennessee fans thinks they legit only have about 2,000 fans.

Even during Franklin's years, they struggled to get over 30,000 Vandy fans to come to home games, and the home games against SEC opponents they still had to fight the opposing fans off. Even with us being terrible with a lame duck Dooley as coach, that stadium was almost 40% UT fans.

They have "fans" in the city that wear their clothes and hats and have their bumper stickers. They can't be bothered to go to their games though.

Vandy doesn't need to cast any stones. Their own gang rape is still pending in the judicial system isn't it.? I still believe that James Franklin knew about it and tried to cover it up. That was the driving force behind him leaving

Haha. That is absurdly terrible. David Williams should go ahead and extend Mason's contract by about 5 years. If he's on the hot seat all season they will have about 5-6 commitments by the end of the season max.

Guy over there starts a thread titled "Surprise: football over classes at UT," and then says pretty sure Vanderbilt doesn't cancel classes for football games. Then pastes from an article stating classes will be canceled at UT on Thursday 9/1 to accommodate for parking, traffic, and security. However, also adds that the canceled day will be added to the end of the semester. So in actuality classes are not being canceled. I'm not sure what Vanderbilt has done on their previous stint of 0-3 Thursday night games, but having gone to the Vandy/WKU game last year, traffic on West End and surrounding area was no different than any night of the week. I guess UT has the good problem of trying to find room for 100k plus people.

I seem to recall they didn't even have more people in the stands against a nationally ranked South Carolina team (maybe Franklin's last year?) than the Titans had in their final preseason game (ya know, the game where all the good players don't play).

Unless Vandy is playing its home opener or a powerhouse SEC team with a huge fanbase, you can be within a block of the stadium and not realize there's a football game taking place.

I drove through just before their 2014 game vs Charleston Southern and thought they had a bye week. Nope. It was 30 minutes before kickoff. Campus was a ghost town.

Who recruits someone by saying if you go to those other schools you won't see the field? You're directly implying they're not good enough. "You're not good enough for Bama but we'll take you."

Comparing Vandy to "the U"? Kid forgets the U has more talent within 50 miles of campus than the entire state of TN has produced in 5 years.
