I said yes, but that guy better owe us a $100 million dollar buyout if he leaves within 4 years of signing. Especially given the fact dude hasn't actually been anywhere 4 years.

1- offense
2- offense
3- offense
4- has dealt with a program suffering NCAA sanctions before - bowl ban + scholarship loss (USC)
5- we will recruit so well it will be hard to lose more than 4 games

Flame away. We know what needs to be done...
I want Kiffin, but don't act like defense isn't important. Football is about both and you still win at the LOS. Kiffin would need to hire a great DC and pretty much let him do his thing. At least Kiffin knows it takes both if you want to play for championships. GBO!!!!

Kiffin is fantastic with offense that is why Nick Saban hired him to the OC at Alabama. Kiffin is an absolute loser when it comes to defense. He even scored well against Alabama. If you were two hire Kiffin be sure you also hire the best in a DC.
Well ....Steele is already there

Tennessee is on no position to pull a caliber coach like Kiffin.
Hell three years ago we thought we were too good for Schiano. Today he wouldn’t even give us a second look.
Vols football is dead, it’s going to take years to recover from this mess.
Expect a Google coach this time around.

This. Kiffin would never come here right now. The idea that so many people think we can just hire him if we want him is absolutely ridiculous.

I think he’d do great here. That being said, there’s no guarantee he stays here for long. Hopefully he wouldn’t bolt after one year. If we do get him, he’ll have done that twice in his career already.
I would say he would have to agree to a contract that leverages a very lofty buyout along with a very short rope in terms of anything regarding impropriety, lack of institutional control, conduct unbecoming, etc. He would have to walk a very straight and narrow line.

No coach with NCAA baggage will be considered. It's why Freeze is a pipe dream for many of us on here. Kiffin is the only coach who I have personally witnessed (over the radio, at least) commit an NCAA violation:

(paraphrasing)

Dave Hooker: Now, coach Kiffin, I know you can't mention any specific recruit's name due to NCAA rules, but what do you make of the trend of great players waiting until after signing day to select a school?

Kiffin: It is a trend. There are great players like Bryce Brown who are now waiting until after signing day to pick a school.

He sure did kill it the last time he was handed a school dealing with sanctions
He actually did a fair job. The difference was that USC went from a top 4 program right into oblivion due to sanctions and the fan base had no patience. USC has never recovered. Right now I would not think anyone has any expectations here other than to be a dumpster fire, so he likely would have a a more realistic path to relative success.

Now why on earth would Lane Kiffin need special language that addresses his conduct?

I assume it would be Steele at DC

Stupid post is stupid. Glad we are letting the adults make hires

Then bolts for the Bama job when satin retires.
His bolting was for his dream job which he stated before he came to Tennessee. Now I couldn't see Kiffin doing that again for anybody but Tennessee. I am sure Mississippi would be upset but it's not like Mississippi is a big power or something. I think he believes he can win at Tennessee, and maintain it. At that point he isn't going to bama. I think he truly wants the chance at UT that he gave up to pursue what he thought was his dream job and now maybe get a chance to land back where maybe he should have been all along. I was mad as heck with Lane did what he did, but I don't think he would have did that for nothing but Southern Cal and he was young and thought he couldn't pass it up. Now I feel like he truly want the Tennessee job and maybe feels like that is where his destiny is. JMHO! GBO!!!!

just imagine....
Kiffin comes back to redeem himself.
Beats Florida year one
Sweeps UF, UGA, and Saban in year 2

Somewhere between these two.

If you say no, you're just still salty about something that happened a decade ago. Yes, I was pissed. However, who wouldn't take their dream job if offered? Don't lie to yourself. Lane would've won big here if he stayed and he will win big here if he returns with our resources.

That is not the reason I don’t want him. I want someone who can take our program to an elite level. He won’t stay long enough to do that, even if he had the ability. I have all the evidence in the world to suggest that he won’t. You have none to suggest that he will.
