It was after Lane had accepted the job at FAU and Saban knew his focus was there and not at Alabama. That's why he let him go. Plus it's no secret that the two didn't like each other.Lane Kiffin is such a valued offensive mind that Nick Saban elected to go with a guy who hadn’t called a play all year than to let him stay with the team for the National championship game. He didn’t even do that with Pruitt after he was hired here. He just wanted him gone yesterday. That’s a close second to being fired on the tarmac.
I commented on Pruitt staying to call the NCG after his hiring here for that reason. And Saban has confirmed through interviews that Lane was formally dismissed. It was after Lane had accepted the job at FAU and Saban knew his focus was there and not at Alabama. Did you just post this comment in another thread? As I replied there… There are significant differences. For one, we could actually get him if that’s who we went after. No question we could outbid Ole Miss. Also he’s actually been the coach here before. I get what you’re trying to say...he’s a popular choice. But nowhere even close to the same situation
Why wouldn’t they go after Sark? What if he tears it up at Texas?? I believe Bama’s first call is Dabo..I don’t believe he leaves but that’s who they call. After that it’s anyone’s guess. They have the money, power, and resources to hire anyone they want. It’s easily the best job in the countryGoing to be surprised if the new AD goes after Kiffin. I believe that he will understand the pain the program and fans have been through and part of that pain was caused by Kiffin. Kiffin left here after one year and would leave Ole Miss after one year??? Believe ADDW will be seeking stability and a solid coach is isn't off to a perceived bigger program that comes calling.
Kiffin simply does not offer that. If Saban gets run over by a log truck next year and Kiffin has ramped our offensive production up and the Tide, for some crazy reason, came calling, Kiffin is gone just as fast as he left for USC and Ole Miss for us. He's a good coach and exciting, but the hinting of willingness to leave Ole Miss after one year is a huge red flag. This is not the be-all, end-all job in CFB in perception right now. I wouldn't touch him.
I think it will be someone who wants to build their program here and be identified with a great Tennessee football program that someone built, not with an eye half cocked elsewhere and using Tennessee only to polish his resume.
My man, he got fired in the most epic fashion ever because he ran nothing but bubble screens and was having a disaster of a season. He’s just not a great coach. Pretty good coach, yes. Better than average coach on some days, yes. You people act like he is Urban Meyer. I just don’t understand the obsession.
I don't know if he would take it for sure or not, but your awful arrogant in your delivery. Maybe he isn't but you don't know one way or the other. 12 years is a long time in sports, he isn't the only coach but this isn't a Gruden situation and not near as far fetched as you make it out. Your NO chance claim has zero merit, I have no idea who we will hire and neither do you.The absurdity that so many are displaying in the delusional idea that we could just go and get Kiffin if we want him is astonishing. He is becoming the new Gruden.
We might as well start saying he owns land in East TN, claiming he’s on planes to Knoxville, that he’s enrolled his kids in school, etc.
There’s absolutely no chance Kiffin would take this current disaster of a job, especially considering the penalties that are coming. Especially when far better jobs are right around the corner.
We’re making ourselves look pathetic. Kiffin left here after one year and now many are desperate for him to come back. It’s like begging your ex-wife who very publicly dumped and humiliated you to come back.
We can somewhat protect ourselves against that in the contract. That is not the reason I don’t want him. I want someone who can take our program to an elite level. He won’t stay long enough to do that, even if he had the ability. I have all the evidence in the world to suggest that he won’t. You have none to suggest that he will.
