Every situation is different depending how one strikes the ball & scores. With the bigger heavier forgiving heads distance is not usually the same. It’s usually lower with the game improvements because it’s harder to hit down on the ball with the wide soles. Play regularly with guys in late 60’s & early 70’s & they still hit cavity back forged irons. Finally convinced a guy this year to get away from the Ping G10’s because he was an excellent ball striker & scorer. Bought the Ping I 20’s & is now a club stronger with them. He is 59

Not my experience at all. If I'm hitting down on the ball, what difference does the sole make if I strike the ball first? Not taking you to task. Just trying to understand your logic.

I went to a borderline game improvement iron and I'm half a club longer.

Leading edge of club is part of sole also. If one is a digger the wider the sole more drag is created slowing down the club head. Lofts on GI's are usually several degrees hotter than forged.

Not sure about your physics on that. The wider sole is for forgiveness on mis-hit shots but a pure shot is gonna be as good as it would be with any other club. If anything the thinner sole is gonna bury reducing club speed whereas the wide sole will glide. Most forged/blade clubs are right there with a lot of GI clubs as far as loft goes.

They need to ban alignment aids on the ball as well, since Old Tom Morris didn't play that way either.

I am going to miss all the melting over anchored putters from those who chose not to use it. I really really hope the Tour writes their own rules.

Guys will post whatever they have for sale & what they're asking. A lot of times it's "Or Best Offer". Transactions are made through PayPal just don't gift the money.

What about carbon fiber graphite shafts? Titanium alloy wood heads? cavity backs? Balls with fifteen different types and layers of rubber on the inside?

i tend to somewhat agree with this. there have been plenty of advancements in golf to make the ball fly longer. land softer, and you could even argue fly straighter. lengthening the shaft to anchor any club to your body to steady it just seems wrong to me.
