The Golf Thread

Just saw split screen footage of what Serge got mad about. Pretty comical to believe that Tiger pulling a club out of site of Sergio was some sort of gamesmanship.

especially given the distance between the too, but I do think Tiger should have known when Sergio hit his shot...

post round, Tiger said the Marshall told him Sergio had hit, but don't you think Tiger would have heard Sergio hit his shot, and the crowds reaction to it..

From 40 yards away and among a crowd and concentrating on what to do next, I completely buy that he didn't know whether Sergio had hit.

I think the truth lies in the middle. I think tiger has to be a little more aware of the surroundings. We talk about it every tournament Tiger plays in. Every move Tiger makes is oohed, awed and critiqued. I've heard the crowds gasp, scream, etc when Tiger chooses a club. They always hear roars from all over the golf course at every tournament. I think Tiger should have been a little more cognizant of what's going on around him.

That said, it wasn't that loud of a commotion and Sergio had plenty of time to step away from his shot. To me, you can notice when Sergio notices the noise and he chooses to pull the trigger anyway. That's on him. Admittedly, it's hard to pull away, but we see pros do it all the time and I can even force myself to do it. Kevin Na has the ability to pull away every shot, sometimes multiple times!

There have been numerous accusations of Tiger using gamesmanship, but ESPN and Golf Channel always keep it small. Lefty has made some accusations, Sabbatini has talked about it and this isn't the first time Sergio has brought stuff up. Brandel Chamblee says many pros actually acknowledge it, they just choose not to air the grievances in a public setting. Sergio, on the other hand, always carries a chip on his shoulder and evidently doesn't have a filter when it comes to speaking his mind. But to act like Tiger isn't just as much a whiner is laughable to me.

He definitely whines like the rest of them. If you've ever been to very many tournaments, I'm sure you know that about half of the players are complete tightasses that act as if their underwear is starched and probably wipe with Kleenex.

Should he have paid more attention? Maybe. But for Sergio to air something like that publicly is incredibly small.

The thing that would now happen if it were me is I'd go to Serge provately and apologize for any distraction whether intentional or not. Of course, as big as Tiger's ego is, that won't happen. And as bad as Sergio's poor me complex is, maybe it shouldn't.

Meant to talk about this part. I think Tiger could have privately or publicly apologized and eased a lot of the tension. But instead, because of his own ego, Tiger just ratcheted up the issue. Some could even argue that this is another example of gamesmanship by Tiger because it's no secret that Sergio battles serious mental demons. This can only be bad for Sergio.

well, watching the final round should make my 4 hr layover in Atlanta a little more tolerable

headed to the airport in about 1/2 hour

Tiger back with a whiteboard shaft. Now would be a good time to get an ad-di on WRX BST.

*maybe not he only hit it 312
