The Golf Thread

I hit a 317 yard job yesterday. Of course it's a drought around these parts. Not quite bama distance.

Honestly, I've never really known how far I hit my driver. Should probably pay more attention. I know my irons distances, but couldn't tell you how far I hit my driver.

that's because you can play golf. On any given day, I have a feel for carrying obstacles or not. It really isn't about the number.

exactly. Hard to dispense decent shaft advice without seeing the swing and watching the measurables on the meter.

That said, what I do know is that the 65g stock shafts, even with high end brand labels, suck.

Yep. Stock shafts are crap IMO. Most companies strap on a name you recognize but it's only cosmetic. They don't perform like they're supposed to. I had an R9 9.5 with a stock motore for about 3 months. Head was okay but the shaft sucked. It was a pos.

The only reason I would care to know is when I play a course that has some trouble long or has a long carry. Most places around here I can pretty much eyeball test it and decide from there. Of course after buying the RBZ 3 that I told you about, I'm hitting in a vast majority of the time.

I have the same stick in a TP and a hole has to be wide or long par 5 for me to even consider driver now.

I have the tour in both the driver and 3. My only knock on TaylorMade is their non-tour woods/hybrids,etc are devastating on hookers.

I've heard that they hit like a damn hammer. My only concern is dropping that much money on the club and I would either order direct from TM with an upgraded shaft or have it pulled. Big bucks for all that.

New Cobra driver. I'm digging the shaft.

I'm 6'4". I know your pain. I hit the ball really, really high myself. The best thing I've found to get control of my ball flight was moving into an X shaft with a high kick point. After research and trying some demos, I settled in with a Diamana Whiteboard Flowerband (Older version of the new shaft Ahina). It dramatically improved my flight. I'm playing a Titleist 910 8.5 degree driver but I've got it tuned down to 7.75 (it's adjustable). With the distance you say you're hitting it, your swing speed has to be 110+ MPH. You should be playing an X shaft IMHO.

Here are the specs on the shaft I'm playing, if you are interested.
MITSUBISHI RAYON / GRAPHITE SHAFTS | Diamana™ D-Series

Thanks for the advice. I will post my results from the launch monitor when I have them.

Got hooked up to launh monitor this morning. Ended up buying the 9 degree RBZ tp with Aldila rip shaft. Popped a few right at 3 bills. Averaged 285. 105 swing speed w 152 mph ball flight.

I was at the range yesterday working on my approach shots and finished my bucket with the driver. I was really hitting it well. This old man was watching but not saying anything. He watched me hit about 10 or 11 straight and far. Then I hit one off the toe. He immediately said, "I see what you're doing wrong." Lmao at driving range teachers!

I refuse to take lessons from anybody that doesn't hit the ball better than I do. I've had maybe 2 lessons & they were from a guy named Robbie Biershenk, he was on The Big Break Indian Wells a while back. Talk about a dude that can clobber a ball. His brother Tommy finally got his card this year & if Robbie had his head on right he could've been better.
