go to a golf store and look at thier used sets, you'll also be able to hit them
you'll be able to find a used set of calloway's, pings or titelist for $200 bucks

Thats the route I would suggest. Theres really no way of knowing what he needs until he's hitting balls at least semi regularly, so no need to spend much right now.

I would rather spend $200 on a good used set of irons than $200 on one of those full sets of sub standard clubs.

What are some things that could Jeep with straightening out slices and hooks?

I don't really have the money to buy newer clubs or get mine adjusted.

I've tried slowing down my swing. I've tried a draw driver. Anything else I could be trying?

If you manage to hit both slices and hooks, you just aren't consistent. No offense, but you need all kinds of help. At least with me, I always fight off the "power fade" aka slice and I can narrow down the culprits.

Find a consistent swing (as mentioned via lots of range practice) and then work out kinks from there.

I agree. Those full sets have to be garbage. I think a beginner is better off at used club bin being advised by someone halfway knowledgeable.

We tried this. You didn't want to meet me.

Oh he's talking about somebody on here vs him. I'm not a short knocker by far. I couldn't tell you how far my drives carry to the yard or the exact yardage they travel on average. I'm sure quite a few are in the 300ish range. Where do you go hit balls to determine the exact yardage? Do you go by holes you play or pace it off or what. If a hole is 400 yards by the card & you have 100 on your approach doesn't necessarily mean you hit a ball 300.

I'm not claiming I can hit 300+ yards.

I like playing guys that talk a lot about being long.
Absolutely . . . There's nothing funnier that hitting one out there and watching some meathead go up there swinging like he's in a batting cage just trying to get one by you.

I know nobody will believe me, but honest to God it hardly ever occurs to me to try and figure out how far I just hit a drive.

We are officially the longest hitting message board on planet Earth.

I was thinking the opposite. So many of you guys are hitting it so short you think 300+ is rediculous. That's what's hard to believe. Even Brittany Lincicome AVERAGES 280. Not much excuse for a healthy man with modern technology, both clubs and balls, to be driving a ball 250.

I guess I'll go back to Dick's tomorrow. If they don't have any then maybe Edwin Watts.

I wouldn't really obsess about it too much. Go get some clubs . . . any clubs . . . and go focus on just having a good time. You'll figure out the rest later.

That's what I was saying. How do you determine the exact yardage unless you walk it off & it's hard or even impossible to see how far it carries unless you got somebody out there watching to see where it hits. Even 300 at the range has variables & probably isn't exact.

Math is cool!

What formula do you use to figure out how far the ball carries? Unless you send your bud out on the range or down the fairway to eyeball where your ball hits the only thing you can measure is point A to point B. Do y'all time each other in the 40 too?

That's mainly what I want to do. Might just go ahead and pull the trigger on the Walter Hagens and just learn how to play the game before I try and get some higher quality clubs.
