What is considered top quality.

Callaway, Taylor made, Nike, Adams, cobra, ping, Cleveland, titleist, & maybe a few others. Doesn't have to be the newest thing on the market. If you don't play that much & are just starting to get serious something with a lot of forgiveness (thicker sole & nice cavity back with perimeter weighting) would probably be your best bet.

Top Flite was bought out by Callaway a couple of years ago, but they are their bottom tier product. The Hagen set wouldn't be horrible to start with, but it might not be a bad idea to see what type of stuff you can find on Craigslist, Ebay or a pawn shop. Ping and Titleist equipment doesn't lose value as much as Callaways or TaylorMade stuff. Adams clubs are pretty forgiving too and they can be found on the cheap as well. One important thing, there's no reason to buy everything the same. I have 4 different brands in my bag (Titleist driver and hybrid, Callaway 3 wood, Ping irons and putter, Cleveland wedges). Buy what you can find a good deal and like the looks of. As you continue playing you can always upgrade.

edit- Just realized the Spalding acquisition (where Callaway picked up Top Flite, Strata and Ben Hogan) was nine years ago. I'm getting old.

Oh ok..I thought it was a different company and I might have confused you guys. The ratings and comments are pretty good though with that set I linked. Like I said...I can't even drive the ball. So I'm not really aiming for top of the line equipment.

My thoughts would be that you'd grow out of the Top Flite set long before the Hagen set or a mix and match set you pick up through used stuff. Either way you can just upgrade as you go. The other thing are the higher end brands will be a lot more forgiving. Bigger sweet spots, better overall weighting, better components making the set, etc.

So you say WH's? Also, I went to my local Dick's and they didn't have any in stock. Would ordering them online be alright?

I guess in order of precedence I'd go with:

1. Mix and Match set (probably a little more spending initially, but better in the long run)
2. Walter Hagen set. (and just slowly upgrade if you really take off playing the game)
3. Top Flite (personally believe you will want to start upgrading within a month if you really take off playing the game)

is it the Hagen complete set? Like driver, woods, irons, putter and bag? If so, then it's just a generic set, very similar to the Top Flite set you saw, but better components IMO. It's no different than buying the set in the store.

U think you can outhit dj?

No. His mechanics are pretty solid for power. He's had drives approaching 400 on a couple of occasions, and one way over 400 that was cart path aided.

But I do like watching him play primarily because of his power.

What are some things that could help with straightening out slices and hooks?

I don't really have the money to buy newer clubs or get mine adjusted.

I've tried slowing down my swing. I've tried a draw driver. Anything else I could be trying?
