The Golf Thread

Pretty pleased with todays rounds, ball striking was much better today but I didn't roll it anywhere near how I wanted to or needed to, will tackle it again in the morning.

i'm a fan of Paula Creamer myself.

the VN recent hot topic of discussion Michelle Wie is tied for the lead this weekend.

she couldn't quite get it together coming down the stretch. was up 3 after 10 and let it slip away.

as soon as she learns how to finish, look out.

Her short putting picks up and she'll regularly kill the field.

Dustin Johnson wins the 54 hole tournament and qualifies for the Masters. sucks they didn't get to finish, but i wouldn't care in the slightest if i was him how it came.

Phil has settled into his place in history. He may win one more major before it is over with but I am not going to hold my breath. I think the U.S. Open broke him.

Based on the ability of the player, Phil's US Open meltdown may have been worse than the Van de Velde collapse at the British.

Phil must realize that winning a tournament without Tiger in the field means much less. The problem is that if he loses without tiger in the field he looks like a bum; and is screwed...and if he wins without Tiger in the field it doesn't really count to the masses; so he's screwed. Golf without Tiger is just a bad marriage for Phil.

last i checked they still paid the same and gave out the same trophies with or without Tiger.

bottom line, winning on the tour is winning on the tour.

Been the story on her for a long time. Her mechanics are terrible with the flat stick. It is hard to "learn" to be a good short distance putter. You either have "it" or you don't. I don't disagree she would kill the field. I just don't see it happening. In all honesty, most great players who have struggled with short putts have seen improvement ONLY when they went to the longer putters. Might be what she needs to do.

i don't think Phail worked very hard in the off season.

You would be wrong. He has worked very hard with Butch Harmon. It isn't unusual for the type of set-up and swing change he is going through to take some time, with there being a little regression before progression.

This is just ridiculous. Tiger has NEVER played a lot of tournaments in a season. Phil has played in a ton of them without Tiger.

then what's his excuse for the horrible putting and sub par short game? i have yet to see anything from tee to green that looks good.

that said, he certainly has the ability to win every week, no matter how bad he played last week.

He's been spending much more time than usual on his swing/set-up and less on the short game. At least this is what Peter Kostis said about it. And it makes sense

I would agree with that.
