how can you only swing your driver 2-3 mph faster? That seems really odd. Iron speed isn't slow at all.
I agree. Iron speed should be roughly 80% of driver speed. If it's not, it's probably indicative of an equipment issue because the mere length of the shaft creating a bigger arc ought to get you most of the way there.
Old. Can't torque up to generate the speed, I guess. Yeah, I was surprised. I thought I was faster.
Still though. The Laws of Physics say that if you swing with the same effort using a longer club, the clubhead has farther to travel and thus should be going faster at the bottom. If you don't mind me asking, how far do you typically carry it with the driver vs. the 6 iron?
The reason this so curious is, like was posted earlier, swinging a mid iron in the mid 80s is not exactly slow and indicative of someone playing "old man" golf.
I don't mind. I'm not a long hitter. Driver-220-240 range. 6 iron is around 155-160.
If you can get it out there 220-240, I'm thinking you got a bad reading from the launch monitor. 1 mph with a driver is worth roughly 2.3 yards of carry for an amateur depending on launch angle. That means you'd be swinging somewhere in the low to mid 90s to carry it 210 or so.
