The Golf Thread

Played for the first time this year this morning. 44 on the front and a 46 on the back. Hit the driver amazingly well but couldn't chip and putt to save my life.

Went to golf shop to hit some new 3 woods. Hit the RBZ and the r11s. Both felt really nice, but r11s seemed heavy to me.

I'm not a big hitter, cranked a couple 260ish which is huge for me. Not sure how accurate those machines are, but those clubs are pretty sweet.

I'm probably gonna get the R11s.

I want a set of the new Ping Anser irons. Can any of you guys help me convince the wife that they are worth $1400.

May try some new irons. Looking for something fairly forgiving but little offset. Gonna get the R11s for sure but gonna find a deal.

Hit the RBZ driver and 3 wood this weekend...both sweet. Getting fitted for the Callaway Razr X irons. Don't know if they'll stop the 30 yr old duck hook, we'll see.

Fire the lower body thru more aggressively (pecker to the target) & lazy hands, duck hook will disappear

The problem with firing my lower body is that it causes me to cast the club...hang on and push it, or release and hook it. I've fought that for almost 30 years now.

Sounds like a recipe for causing him to get "flippy" with his hands and hit a bunch of blocks and even bigger hooks, but whatever works.

Maybe a grip problem or coming over the top with a closed face. My miss is usually a hook as well but I've gotten it more under control.

Does the ball start right of the target, down the line or left of the target?

right of target, then hard low hook. On days that the tempo is good, all balls are high and straight. Bad days=duck hook

Divots must point right of target on rough days and be fairly straight on good days. Could be setup or could clear better on some days and get club down the line. Either way, nobody on this board is going to give advice worth shiz without seeing it. Go to a decent pro and ask. Divots and ball flight answer a lot, but don't tell why.

Probably a severely flat swing with the club stuck way inside . . . But you're right. Only somebody staring at your swing can tell for sure.

Only reason I jumped in is that I'm always leery of any advice that includes manipulating a natural hand release.

I do know one thing though. Any advice that includes doing anything to manipulate a natural hand release is dubious.

Agreed. If your release isn't from loose hands and acceleration, you generally suck.

Exactly...getting stuck and then trying to arm swing makes it worse. I've gone from a 5 handicap a year ago, to an 11 now and I'm playing like a 20. Pro at my club says he's never seen such a good looking swing perform so bad on the course. I think new clubs will fix it tho...lol
