4 man best ball is great format
Posted via VolNation Mobile

I never said it wouldn't be fun, but I've never been able to take best ball format as serious as I would a normal individual round. I'm just hoping we can put up some low numbers. I'll most likely be depended on for putting and I'll probably take a few tee shots, but I'm hoping some of the guys can really strike it well with their irons. I only know one other guy in our group. He's a long hitter, it just goes wayward from time to time, so we'll see what happens.

sounds like your describing a scramble. Best ball you play out the hole with your own ball and post the lowest score of the group.

both are equally fun.

scramble is probably more fun, in my opinion, because you have one guy play safe or lay up and everybody gets a turn trying to rip it.

actually you are correct. Hadn't even thought about it honestly. Been so busy working games every day about the only thing my head is cleared for right now is how to make it into my bed, into the shower and driving to the ballpark.

I think he did mention best ball, but he was describing bringing in ringers that can do certain things well, so it may well be a scramble. Either way, I don't mind it. I get to spend a morning on the golf course before a game. I'm a happy camper.

on a more serious note, does anyone know what's going to happen to the Pro V1s? Callaway won their patent infringement suit, Bridgestone won theirs and I've even heard Srixon has a pending case. Some people have told me that the Pro V1 and Pro V1x may be pulled off the shelves. Does anyone have more info on this?

Titleist is about to put out a new ball anyway.

Didn't know anything about the suit. What's the deal?

Titleist has evidently been busted for more than a handful of patent infringements. From my small understanding, it has something to do with 3 piece ball technologies. I was told the Pro V1s were going to be completely replaced with this new ball and was hoping someone else has more information.

Played ok today. Really tough front nine, but rebounded nicely on the back to make it worth my while. Turns out the tournament tomorrow is at 1 pm and not 9. I can't play that late tomorrow, but a buddy is trying to hook up a tee time for somewhere tomorrow morning. My problem today was mostly chipping and putting. I was hitting good irons, good wedges in, and was killing my driver. If I can just improve putting tomorrow I can hopefully see some low numbers. We shall see what happens. I'm sure if i do improve putting, something else will just falter because golf is a cruel cruel mistress.

My son's golf coach gave him this putting drill that I have been using. Maybe it'll give you something different to try.

Line up 6 balls in a straight line with the first 1 foot away from the hole, the second two feet away, the 3rd three feet away, etc...

Then make the first, step back and make the second, step back for the third, etc...Use the same stroke each time.

Once you make all six in a row, move to the opposite side of the hole and do it again. I've done this my last few rounds for warming up and I've been putting marginally better. Before I would just drop three balls on the green and start banging puts around. Maybe the routine helps groove a feel and making 6 in a row builds confidence for the day.

thanks for the tip. I've always used the circle drill like you see some pros. I'll line up about 6-8 balls in a circle around the hole 5 ft away or so, make them and then move further back.

For what it's worth, I was lights out putting the past couple of trips. It saved me from my bad iron shots. These greens were just tremendously slow and that always eats me alive. I never could accurately judge the speed.

It also didn't help me that the putting green was nothing compared to the greens on the course.

do the same starting about 10 feet from the fringe. Try to stop every ball on the fringe. Gets the head thinking about speed and gets away from aiming and hole focus, so the stroke is generally better. Doing that for about 5-10 minutes is pretty good drill.

I'll give it a try next time out - certainly can't hurt...

Today is the semi-final round of our Ladies Club Championship (it is match play,) so I get to ride around and watch my better half beat up on some old woman. Fortunately, the match shouldn't last more than about 12 holes, and there is a high probability that there will be beer on the cart.

Up until this year, providing a supportive gallery was the responsibility of her parents. Marriage changes many things.

As much as I hate 4 man scramble, I actually enjoy 2 man scrambles for some reason. It seems to move faster and there's more strategy involved.

Wife advances 5&4 (she has won the event all three of the previous times she has entered it.) More interesting than that is the fact that I went out with her and shot a 38 on the front after the match (par 35.) Maybe good golfing is contageous.
