The Golf Thread

I had a neat golf weekend, without actually playing. My wife and I went up to canton/akron ohio on a photography gig. While there we dropped in on the location for a wedding that we are doing in october. The place was called glenmoor country club. Man this place was beautiful, it was a monestary before it became a country club. We rode around the course a bit to look at pictrure locations and the course seemed to be very well designed (Nickalaus). I hit some range balls...but that was about it. I was also able to run over to have a look at firestone where this weeks wgc bridgestone event will be held. It was cool to be there however I was more impressed with glenmoor. If you ever find yourself in canton, ohio i suggest checking it out-apparently this is the place where tiger and the rest of the guys stay and practice during the bridgestone.

Played the Georgia Tech Club at Echelon Sunday in Alpharetta GA. Course is in the best shape I've seen it since it opened in '06. It is a pretty tough course 7558 from the tips. I have never played the back tees and probably never will. It has the 7th highest slope rating in the US (154). It's a beast. Had a pretty bad round score wise, but did manage a single bird. I had the flat stick rolling as I had at least 6 or 7 one puts (2 were +20 ft) and only one 3 putt. I've really been struggling off the tee and it is about to get old. Didn't hurt the pocket book too bad as I only lost 2 greenbacks. I guess I just need to say the word "press" at the beginning of my round so I can get my act together in the beginning instead of the end. :)

off to the course today for some humidity and golf. it rained last night, so hopefully the greens will be soft.

i'm setting the over/under on my hat being fully soaked in sweat by the 5th hole.

i met a guy yesterday at the range who told me he could hit 5 wood from the rough 330+ yards.

i asked if i could pound a few balls with the club he had, but he said he left it at home. how convenient.

no confirmation on whether or not it was truefan.

he's apparently a beast or plays in hurricanes. did you ask if it goes backwards if he tries in the opposite direction?

i was too busy laughing to ask any questions.

i watched him swing. his driver was only going maybe 275-300, so he's got a solid swing.

another so so round in the mid 80s today with temps plus 90. At least I scored lower than the temperature right?

Playing once or twice a month sucks. Playing nine more this evening (gotta love off days in baseball), so hopefully that will come out better.

I don't carry a 5 wood:)

I hadn't thought about it, but I shot lower than the temp too - although it's not hard here.

Shot an 86 yesterday at Plantation Golf Club with a temperature of 105. Drank 12 beers and 4 gatorades and didn't pee once.

Not too many courses better than Firestone South. Quite simple layout, yet a great test. If you aren't on your game, it will make you look like a hack.

Well, it is 97 degrees and there are approximately a billion cicada killers in my front yard, so I'm going to the package store and then to the course.

I have never hit the driver as well as I've hit it lately, didn't miss a fairway from the tee Tues ( can't remember the last time if ever I've done that ) only missed 3 in 27 holes today, the sad news is my scores haven't improved as much as they should have because suddenly I've lost my mid and long iron swing. I hit a couple of 4 irons so left of target today it was pitiful, I mean I hit'em more left than Al Franken, damn game beats all don't it ?

that's why no one is ever satisfied with the game-it just keeps pushing you for more.

Played in a boys and girls club scramble yesterday and was miserable..
I can only remember one other time playing in hotter weather, and that was a time in Vegas...

The last 4 holes, we went 2 over, in a freakin scramble...

We started off like gang busters we were 3 under after 2, an Eagle on our opening Par 5had us feeling good, then reality and the heat set in

Played a good front yesterday, followed by a horrible back. The driver, she gets wild on the weekends.

playing a local links style course that I've never played Friday and then a 4 man best ball tourney Saturday. Hard to take 4 man best ball serious, but it will be the first time all year I've been able to play on back to back days. Really looking forward to it.
