the waiting game is on for the big orange nation with all eyes on the defensive coordinator position. Head coach derek dooley doesn't have anyone scheduled to be in town for an interview on friday after hosting alabama assistant coach sal sunseri on wednesday and navy defensive coordinator buddy green on thursday. It is thought that those two are the finalists. And the feeling seems to be that everyone is waiting on sunseri. Tennessee could announce a hire on friday. In fact, ut's leadership has had hopes to do so in order to make a big splash and dominate the headlines on a key recruiting weekend.

I have to believe its Sunseri. Wonder if Buddy is coming on as something besides DC. I can see a move from Navy as a DC to here as a LB/assistant head coach.

On Monday, it appeared the search might be coming to a quick end as Dooley had serious discussions with Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Bennett. Professionally, Bennett wanted the Tennessee job and would have loved to have come to Knoxville. But for family reasons, he didn't feel like he could make the move and that's why he's saying in Waco.

A third party did gauge interest with former Florida and Illinois head coach Ron Zook. Zook was interested to the point that he would have listened to Dooley about the position, but Dooley elected not to go in that direction.

Former Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele was never offered the Tennessee job, but sources familiar with the situation indicated that talks were serious enough that UT discussed financial options with Steele.

We heard the name Dick Bumpas who is the defensive coordinator at TCU. It's also our understanding that Bumpas would have listened as well. But Dooley elected not to pursue him.

If something were to happen that it wasn't Sunseri or Green then Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi would be a factor and we believe he would listen.

So all in all NOBODY turned down UT and CDD was spot on in saying there was alot of interest in coaching here. Funny not one mention about Chavis.....even though Hyams reported it.

Then Sunseri and Green over Narduzzi

Derek Dooley needs to go be an asst. with Nick Saban at Bama and let Hart hire a real coach

I am really proud of you Skeeter and anyone else with real inside information. Not only will it be a suprise when I awake tomorrow but you decided to wait and let the fun begin with overnight drunks posting classics as to whom they guess. :hi:

Now if you know anything regarding say a well name recruit I would be glad if you spilled the beans on that....unless it is supposed to be a secret since he is going to pull a Janzen Jackson or keeping with the negavol theme this week a JC Copeland...


ALSO is there any truth to the rumor that CLT will have a negative insight after this hiring, obviously if it is not him?

I think its more of a schematic thing. My bet would be were wanting to go 3-4 and TCU doesnt run that
