The cell phone thread

FYI Harry, I had the Iphone for a while and I just like the eternity better. The touchscreen is slightly better on the Iphone imo, but for the money and media, I like the eternity better.

I meant if you didn't want a iPhone data plan. The iPhone app store really kills all phones right now.

Not trying to turn you off to the Iphone, but the eternity is impressive and it has the app store as well. I guess it is just a matter of personal taste, the iphone to me had a lot of bugs in it and I find the eternity runs smoother. The call quality on the eternity compared to the iphone was way more clearer and crisper. I think the iphone is a great phone, especially the second generation versions, but I have just enjoyed the eternity better.

I don't have an iPhone, nor do I ever plan on getting one. I just think they have set the bar very high for cellphones. The Eternity looks like a very solid phone. If I had ATT and didn't want the data plan I would probably go with the Eternity. It looks almost like the Omnia.

The only drawback that I have with the Eternity is its lack of windows OS. I really enjoyed it on the T-Mobile Shadow that I had. But even without windows OS on the Eternity, I can open and edit PDF and just about all apps that are common with windows. I havent ever used the Omnia, but from people that I know that have it claim it is another one of those "iphone killers" I beleive it runs the Opera which I have heard is wonderful. If you are using VW you couldnt go wrong with it.

Yeah not a big fan of that stylus, I think the ATT incite was the same way. Dont see the point of not having somewhere in the phone to store it other than hanging down from it.

I love my iPhone.

I do miss the Tele-nav app from my Tilt though. It was a full GPS app with turn-by-turn voice directions. It also re-calculated your route automatically if you miss a turn.

I have my iPhone set to wirelessly tether the 3g to my computer. Also if you run Linux on your laptop there is an application to tether thet 3g to the computer through the USB cable.

Are you serious? I need more details on this dickens.

You like the eternity better than the iphone for media??? Seriously?

You have to jailbreak it. But it uses an iphone SSH client and connects with an adhoc wireless network. The tunneling one for Linux (through USB) doesn't require a jailbreak, I don't believe.

If ya'll want details about how to jailbreak it (don't let apple fool you, you can get future updates on your phone if you really want them) and tether it wirelessly let me know and I'll link ya'll some websites.

So for those who have Alltel, including myself, what exactly is going to happen in a few months when its dissolved into Verizon? I have been reading on the website seeing how it might effect my plan and all, its just wierd that they are doing so much advertising if its going to be all null and void real soon, does this mean Chad and the Verizon guy in the commercials is going to fall in love and have a life partner ceremony?

You using Ziphone Dickens? I unlocked my first ipod touch the hard way by hacking it,on the next ipod touch I bought (first one was stolen) I used the Ziphone "plug & play" app.

Don't worry about bricking the phone/ipod touch either.I've got several back up that was "bricked."

I used ZiPhone when I jailbroke my iPod touch. The iPhone I used pwnageTool. Worked wonderfully.

Yes it does.I unlocked a friend of mines with pwnage.

The reason I asked Dickens, is at one time they had an app called Net Share by the developers Null River, this app would allow tethering, and was sold in the app store, but it was quickly taken down.I thought you might have been one of the lucky people that got it before they canned it.

Sadly, no.

8330 Blackberry Curve.

Actually that's the way I ended up going. It's a bit of a change from the Treo but I'm really liking it so far. With the delay of the Palm Pre, I decided to try out a Blackberry. July, 1st, my wife is due for an upgrade and I will get the Pre then, and she can have this Blackberry.

Do you have any links on this? I'm interesting in jailbreaking and the linux tunneling.

I have an ipod touch. Is it beneficial to jailbreak it?

If you use email you will love it. Larkin and I are both former Treo users that have switched to blackberry and I don't believe either of us would consider going back.

This is my first post from my storm.
